Summary: For a name brand item I expected to at least last me through the year. We use these on servers to install the operating system and diagnose hardware when internal drives are not available. BEWARE the unit only has a part warranty! This is the last Samsung product I will buy.
Pros: Small, Not glossy and ugly. Fits nicely in a tech case. Low price name brand.
Cons: Failed after a couple OS re-installs. Useless mfc. warranty. Consistently fails to properly read multiple DVD's and CD's will cause errors during installs, and will fail to load diagnostic.
Summary: To Newegg's credit, there has been no reluctance to replace the units. The problem is having to go through the process: apply for the RMA repackage defective burners, print RMA information, print return address label, wait for replacement and repeat.
Cons: Specs look good, price was decent. Bought one, have replaced it twice, gave up, asked for refund. All three units show "Sector 0 Error". It's not my computer or other equipment--I tried multiple copies of several different dvd's, switched cables, rebooted burner and computer several times. Anothe...
Summary: I followed directions and downloaded an updated driver before making my last series of attempts with this. Guess I just got a DOA.
Pros: Looks nice. Can read DVDs I have written with other device on this media: Memorex DVD+R 16x.
Cons: Fails out of box. Cannot read the disc it was shipped with. Win7 event log says "driver detected a controller error" over and over. Cannot write DVD+R 16x, just garbages the disc. Box says it can do DVD+R at 8x, so why doesn't it? 16x should be easier.
Summary: I now am the proud owner of a DVD Burner that wont work because it is not supported with a driver anywhere!
Pros: fast delivery and nice price however.....
Cons: why would a company sell a product and not support it with a driver? Samsung Users manual says windows should already have a driver for thier device. Samsung website does not provide a driver, only the users manual.
Cons: Randomly "unplugs" itself when given a big load. I cant burn discs b/c it quits before the burn can be completed. Windows tells me that it disconnected then reconnected. Usable for gaming only when the game does not require info off the disc. Installing or moving data off the drive also causes di...
Summary: Nero support seems more interested in selling me updates of the software it came with, than explaining to me how to use it. The following is their response after I spent hours trying to follow their instructions and emailed them a very complex and technical summary of my actions to install the...
Pros: none at this point
Cons: Having great difficulty getting the Nero support to help me install and use software. Frankly if I new I would need to buy expensive software ( same or greater price than the hardware itself) to watch a movie in it I would not have bought it. To this point I don't know if it works well or not. I ...
Summary: Returning the product is not simple. I had paid for shipping fee when bought the item. And now, I have to pay a big restocking fee and the fee to ship back. It is better for you to select another item with the higher quality.
Pros: It's cheap.
Cons: I am so upset when using this product. It is extremely LOUD.
Summary: Until Samsung bothers to actually make this functional for Mac users and actually provides ANY kind of documentation along with maybe a nicety like providing the Driver along with the PC version...Don't bother. Even for the online Mac drivers they'll keep referring to your Mac as a PC.
Pros: Its cheap, so when you try it with your Mac you won't feel like you've lost much besides your time.
Cons: Samsung touts their support for Mac, but don't look at this one. It will play discs but my Snow Leopard Macbook Pro shows this drive as Burn support = NO. A few trials confirms this. Mac Documentation is non-existent with the drive, and the driver installation (which they'll tell you you don't ne...
