Summary: I have a Samsung Series 9 and this blu-ray drive works great with minimal setup. It plays Blu-rays smoothly without any hiccups. There is no need to plug-in both USB cables. It works with only one USB with my laptop.
Summary: Haven't tried the bluray option yet because I mainly use it to install software on my driveless laptop. Works well, even with just one plug. Would have bought the bluray writeable version, but I probably would never burn a bluray in my life.
Summary: Just wanted to point out that only one USB port is needed if your motherboard sends sufficient power to that port. Works perfectly on my M11x with just one port. True plug-n-play operation. Zero stutter while watching blu-rays using PowerDVD.
Summary: Playstation Media Server Mac, Boxee Media Manager, are incredibly useful for streaming video over my home network. Boxee Media Manager streams to Boxee Media Player for iPad and it allows me to watch videos on my iPad that iTunes says will not work.
Pros: Mac OS X Compatible Blu-Ray Drive, I use it with MakeMKV, and Handbrake for backing up my Blu-ray and DVD Movies to Hard Drive.
Cons: Uses two USB plugs to get enough power and my MacBook Pro only has three available so I have to disconnect something in order to use the drive.
Summary: FWIW, I have not tried any of the DVD burning features.
Pros: Nice, compact design. Works perfectly in Ubuntu 10 without further configuration. I was able to easily rip blurays with MakeMKV in Ubuntu and transcode/resize with Handbrake. I did not bother going through ridiculous number of laborious steps to play it directly off the BD disc, though I am sure ...
Cons: No pouch. Double-power cable that comes with it is a bit short.
Summary: -Upgrading the software costs nearly as much as the drive
Pros: -Stutter free blu-ray on my computer -No power cord needed -Surprisingly quiet -Highly portable so blu-ray is available in what ever room you are in -The included software works competently -Recognized on linux (no blu-ray movies on linux of course)
Pros: This is a great value for $79 from a top manufacturer. The software bundle disk that comes with it includes PowerDVD 9 which plays back the Blu-Ray movies I have thrown at it with no problems on a Lenovo Q150 mini PC with ION 2. It feels solidly put together for a thing as small as this and has a...
Cons: Seems to needs 2 USB ports to get enough power for Blu-Ray playback, so i had to get one of these USB hub cables to put my keyboard/mouse/webcam all into one port: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817196078&cm_re=usb_hub_cable-_-17-196-078-_-Product
