Summary: Does exactly what I needed. Burns efficiently without being too loud. It's sleek and small and all around a good deal for what I paid for it. Way easier to burn a bunch of DVDs than to lose all my stuff on external hard drives.
Summary: Works great for the Macbook Air, despite the included software being meant for Windows--you don't need that software. Just plug it in (and you only need 1 USB port, not 2) and it works. Very cheap and small too.
Summary: Macs are obviously not made to last! My optical drive broke down twice, the second time jamming a disc and damaging the mechanism. This is after replacing the hard drive and then the microphone stopped working as well & I got a Logitech to replace that. So, no more big bucks to the greedy Steves! EVER! After trying and returning another product that supposedly works with iMac but doesn't, I tried this because Samsung has a good reputation and another reviewer praised it.
Summary: I have used this to boot several PCs with Windows installer DVDs and Linux installer and live CDs and DVDs and have had no issues. It's fast and quiet and while I cannot say I have really testing the burning features greatly, what I have burned had no issues. It is a great buy.
Summary: I have a Dell Inspiron that was purchased in 08. The burner in the laptop died. The replacement for a internal burner was 50 bucks. So I opted to go for the external burner. I am very pleased with my purchase. There is no difference in speed of the write between the internal and external. It comes with 2 USB plugs but I have ever only plugged one in for it to work. I have used it maybe 50 times and all disc burnt without any issues or flaws.
Summary: I have tested this unit on Windows 7 Professional, Linux Ubuntu 10.04, and Mac OS X 10.7.3. Just plug and play on all three operating systems! This DVD-Writer does include a USB cable with one Mini-A plug on one end of cable for DVD-Writer and two Type A USB plugs on the other end of cable for computer to provide extra power to device if needed. I only had to use the one USB Type A (with dual cables to plug) to supply both signal and power from the laptop.
Summary: I bought this external DVD player for my in-laws whose internal DVD drive had stopped working. They mainly use it to read and load game cds (the kind you buy at Target) and so far it's worked wonderfully. The price was right, especially since we weren't going to do anything super complicated with it.
