Summary: Nice, but unfortunately, these Slim External drives do not play Avery labeled (or any paper labeled) discs well. If I had of known this, I probably would not have bought it. To be fair though, it is great for listening, burning or downloading material from un labeled discs or light scribe discs.
Summary: comes with 2 usb cables as described. Got this for my new retina macbook... appears you need to have both USB cables inserted to work as described, just having one inserted, it reads, but if you want to burn content or move... both are needed in my scenario... and on the macbook retina... theres 2 usb ports, both on opposite sides... cords do not reach without some kind of extender... Just make sure you ready product detail before purchasing.
Summary: Out of the box, the darn thing wouldn't open. I had to get a needle to manually eject the tray. After that, it has been working fine doing its job. For now at least.I think 99% of this drive is made of plastic. The 1% is the metal wiring. LOL!
Summary: When I got it, it felt kinda felt cheap and I had a hard time getting it to open. After messing with it for a few minutes it finally opened but I don't know what I did any different to get it to finally open other then continue to push the button a dozen or so times. Hope it is not a sign of problems to come. I have made DVD's and CD's and it worked well for the past month or so.
Summary: Initially the door did not open, but I did hear a grinding sound. Then I read JB123's review (Oct 23 2012), follow his steps and was able to get the door opened. The part that I followed JB123's comment - - grinding sound - locate the emergency eject hole - Insert a paper clip into the hole. The door actually opened after pushing the pin several times ! Many thanks to JB123. Remember you need two USB ports from the PC.
Summary: Keep in mind that this entire product category has fallen to a $30 price range. So I do not view this as a bargain basement item. Especially since this is a name brand Samsung item versus a generic enclosure. The enclosure is light weight glossy plastic on top and sturdier textured plastic underneath. Light weight is probably good if you want to carry this around.
Summary: This product is decent. It performs well. I have been able to read and write CDs, and play a DVD. I have not tired burning a DVD yet. The reason why I give this product 3-stars is because when it arrived, the tray would not eject. The drive would make a horrible grinding noise, and never eject the tray. I was going to return it, and maybe buy an alternative. However, for some reason, I picked the drive up to move it to another table.
