Summary: I bought it to use as an external CD for my Acer Netbook running Windows 7. I have an external case that plugs into the USB port. It works fine for both reading and writing CDs and playing DVDs. It installed easily and does exactly what I wanted it to do. It is a great deal at a great price.
Summary: So far so good, was acting up out of the box though. Got it for an old Dell Dimension 2400 system that I just finished fixing up. The problem was that sometimes it wouldn't read CDs in the drive, and others it would constantly keep spinning data CDs for no apparent reason at rather high speeds.
Summary: This filled a need. I hagd an old computer that just had a CD ROM drive. I took out the CD ROM drive and put in this drive. It worked the first time and has worked well since. I used it to install Windows and other software. A CD ROM driove would not have been adequate for those tasks.

Summary: This item worked just fine in my older Dell running Windows 7. I tested it by writing to CDs and reading DVDs. No problems at all. The jumper configuration did not match Samsung documentation I had on hand, but it worked without changing anything, so I ignored the documentation.
Summary: LOVE IT. I've searched for AGES for an IDE optical drive that's decently fast and not freaking BROKEN (read: ebay) and a very good price. This sucker is fast as hell (2x as fast as my old broken one) going up to about 48x on ripping.
Summary: I ordered two of these for my Mac Pro (pre-2014). The problem was the front lid wouldn't go through the doors on the Mac Pro. So, with a little work, I removed the front lid, or panel. Had to be careful not to let any shavings or little pieces go into the unit.
