Summary: It may be a short life on the product but I am a high end user and I am always burning everyday. I had a Sony before this and it didn’t last as long either. But I know other people with the same products and it still works as the same day they got it (but they don’t burn that much).
Summary: Plextor used to be the best and one of the most expensive, and now, I'm even consider getting another brand like NEC.
Pros: Works very well with DVD+/-R disc. Also CD-R. No problem whatsoever with them.
Cons: Tons of problem with rewritable discs. CD-RW or DVD+RW. It is not able to read the RW (especially DVD+RW) discs. It simply can't read them (rarely able to since I bought it.) I erased the discs using a Sony drive then put into Plextor for burning. It completed but the disc is not readable. Plexto...
Summary: NOTE: the same drive works perfectly in my Gigabyte system!
Pros: Warning to Asus Motherboard owners. Plextors or at least this model have issues with Asus boards. In this case the A8n-sli wich is a greaty board! This player is choppy, Locks up and will not work as it should yet the system works prefectly with other brands. Various forums have posts about this i...
Summary: I was under the impression that this was the best drive on the market and had also recieved many approvals by top name magazines. I just don't understand what the deal is.
Pros: When I first recieved this drive it seemed to run incredibly fast. Newegg does rock with customer service and speedy shipping.
Cons: I have had to RMA this drive twice. The first time the drive just wouldn't boot up. The second time was because the drive would not burn dual-layer DVD's. I used all the recommended discs but it was a no go. Giving it a third try... after that it is getting thrown against a wall.
Summary: I bought it March 2005 and I used it to burn about 20-30 disks. It is broke in July 2005. I called the manufacture support number and the customer service told me that I need to do a self-test first by buying another brand DVD disks such as Verbatim, TDK, or Maxell, then call them back.
Summary: I preface all my comments with the fact that if you feel you must buy this drive, NewEgg is the best retailer to buy from; it is highly praised at club.cdfreaks.com and with good reason—the customer service is excellent and so are the prices.
