Summary: You can spend weeks researching for a product like I did and you will more than likely end up right back here. I like it alot and recommend this product.
Pros: It has 1 USB and a separate power supply. It writes and reads extremely fast and is quiet. After researching for one of these I found this to be the best deal for the money.
Cons: I tried to use it on an older laptop to install an operating system and it was not compatible so it did not work, but I didn't think it would since the laptop is a 1990 model. It worked great on all the other pc's.
Pros: The reason I purchased this drive was to replace another external optical drive that I've been using for quite a few years. I travel a lot, so having cabled is really a burden. The Pioneer drive is powered by the same USB cable you use to connect to the laptop so it's much easier to carry that ve...
Cons: I wish it came with a case. I have a small external hard drive, USB powered too, and it came with a small clothe case that made it useful to carry around. Oh well, this isn't really a big deal.
Summary: Aesthetically pleasing, especially if you have a BlackBook. I have a white MacBook so it looks like a lump of anti-Mac matter next to it. Still, actions speak louder than words.
Pros: Small, light, gives you three power choices: over USB bus, powering with forked cable, or powering with a wall wart. Burns like a champ. Haven't used RAM media but it handles plus R media beautifully. QUIET. Don't know what the guy who said it was loud was smoking. WAY quieter in both playback an...
Summary: Works nicely with my Gateway EC1803U 11.6 inch mini-notebook (same as Acer Aspire 1410 11.6 inch) when powered off the USB without the external power supply. Loaded SW with it and burned CDs and played DVDs with it.
Pros: Nicely packaged in well-fitting good quality foam. Has a real paper manual, not a single sheet manual Can power from single USB port or from provided plug-in external power supply Good solid construction, both externally and with regard to the tray - not flimsy
Cons: Relatively short USB cable, 19.5 inches from connector tip to connector tip (But maybe others are similar to prevent too much voltage drop when powering from USB cable) Vibration/noise when operating at full speed
Pros: Nice Design and great packaging! It comes with a seperate AC power cord, so it won't drain your netbooks' battery. Also a USB cable is furnished. I have used it to install a few programs on my Samsung N120 notebook, and it handled them fine. I haven't had it long enough to burn CDs or DVDs yet, b...
