Summary: I couldn't get it to work with Blu-Ray discs, but haven't thoroughly investigated third-party suggestions to make this work. Drive jammed 3 times over 10 months when inserting discs (in standard horizontal position). First 2 times, it readily ejected disc when using the physical disc-eject hole.
Pros: Works out-of-box as DVD on Linux (tested with Mint 17).
Cons: Doesn't work out-of-box as Blu-Ray drive (at least under Mint 17). Jams on rare occasions. Pioneer Customer Service is woefully understaffed and has a less-than-impressive support and factory-service website.
Pros: The Pioneer BDR-209DBK has none of the problems that I've run into with other similarly featured drives. There have been no software conflicts, no problems with dual layer media, and the mechanism does everything quickly and quietly. It delivers the specified speeds, and the tray logos are black-...
Summary: It is pointless for these 16x burners to go that fast. There is no BD-R media that can go that fast. Burning fast increases your chances of making a coaster through disc wobbles. The fastest you can safely go is 6x.
Pros: Burnt 50 blu-ray discs without problem as soon as I got it installed in my desktop. Not a single coaster, mind you I was using 50 Verbatim LTH BD-Rs (Model 43773). Why would I mention my verbatim single layer BD-Rs? Most people will buy the LTH BD-Rs (lower quality) since they are cheaper than th...
Cons: Newegg doesn't state all specifications and I was disappointed at the read speed of the burnt BD-Rs (LTH type) only at 8x. I discovered this when I was using Nero to verify my 50 burnt discs. If you google "BDR-209DBK" and go to the Official Pioneer site, you will see the following: Read Speed (P...
Summary: If it weren't for the fact that I bought this drive as a means of providing built-in CD/DVD (Blu-ray not needed) disc access while maintaining a stealthy blacked-out look on a custom build, I would have returned it for refund. This is the most disappointing drive I've encountered in 15 years.
Pros: Blacked out faceplate is great for stealth look
Cons: Slow access speed, lacks features/capabilities found in most other models in same price range, and poor Blu-ray playback (artifacting at regular intervals regardless of software used or disc played - as if a hardware buffer issue).
