1.5 years in

Douglas S., Newegg
18 February 2014
  • Summary: Would definitely buy again.
  • Pros: Great drive. I was a little skittish considering the price. The HCL matched so I went with it. Still working great on DVD and Blu-ray side. Quick clean burns. One firmware update and still going strong. Over 500 burns so far of various media. home movies and pics. ETC. You know. :)

Broke after 1 year.

Mark B., Newegg
18 August 2013
  • Pros: It wasn't expensive.
  • Cons: Drive tray no longer works, 1 year and one month after purchase. Also, drive read speeds were unimpressive.

After 4.5 Months - RATS!

James R., Newegg
20 March 2013
  • Pros: For 4 and a half months this was one of the best drives I have ever had. Fast, Reliable, Quite. If you had asked me during that time whether I would have recommended this drive, I would have given it a 5-star rating.
  • Cons: I don't know if it's just this one drive or the series, but here is my tale of woe. 2-days ago (just about 4.5 months out of its life) the blue-ray laser died. It started getting power calibration errors when trying to write to Verbatim (and other) media. I tried other programs from the default W...

Update on previous review

Charles B., Newegg
18 November 2012
  • Summary: Pioneer appears to make a good drive, but if you get one with problems, I would suggest having a local repair person fix it rather than wasting time on sending it to Pioneer. Since I have gotten the unit back, I have tried to contact Pioneer on several occasions, and all have been cut off without...
  • Pros: It can read optical discs and write the contents to an HDD. It can install an operating system, as long as you have the disc.
  • Cons: If you try to burn more than one copy of a BR disc, it slows to the point of taking a full day to write each subsequent disc. Seems to be okay for DVDs, but I use it on an HD video editing machine, and DVDs are not part of the deal. I returned this unit to Pioneer, and evidently, they can't fix i...

Pioneer BDR-207DBK BluRay burner

Anthony G., Newegg
17 November 2012
  • Summary: Well packaged when shipped.
  • Pros: Just bought this thing - first bluray burner. Got it mostly for backups (and not playing movies). It gets to the point where backing things up onto regular DVDs isn't efficient because you have 10+ gbs of data you want to keep together instead of spanning onto multiple discs. Or you have a bunch ...

The LED nor the drive tray work!

Peter S., Newegg
6 November 2012
  • Summary: All other online PC component retailers, resellers and local or distant PC stores will be given my business instead of me going to you and promoting your supposed "good reputation" and tarnish it forever until you go down as the inconsiderate jerks you really are!
  • Pros: Well I wish I could have used it for what I needed it to do if only Newegg had sent me a brand new, and functional unit! But I can't say for certain if it's the Bytecc 5.25" External Enclosure that's the problem, but I've tested a Pioneer SATA DVD Burner drive inside it and that drive works, so a...
  • Cons: I'll make sure I never buy anything from you again! Upon this unresolved incident, I will immediately deter friends & family away from your business! My last order of business will be to get a suitable refund because of your mistake(s)! I will go elsewhere for every single item on my wishlist, an...

Plays blu-ray movies and comes with software

Joseph P., Newegg
6 November 2012
  • Summary: I got this for the brand name, not for Blu-ray burning. I didn't expect it to be this quiet. The software did play Harry Potter just fine despite PowerDVD being clunky. I guess they don't want me to use fraps on it or something.
  • Pros: One of the quietest disc drives I have ever used Pioneer drives are very good Comes with software
  • Cons: PowerDVD ends up turning off Aero. Still works, but it's very annoying Different black than the standard PC black

Great so far

Michael B., Newegg
26 September 2012
  • Pros: Pretty darn good for the price. Bought it on sale for about $90. Burned a Verbatem double layer bluray disk at 8x even though it was a 6x disk. Came with software but the only part I'm using is the part burning disks. Power DVD10 isn't working with bluray disks, but then neither did power dvd9 th...
