Pioneer – BDC-S02BK

24 October 2007
  • Conclusion: This is a good combo drive for anybody whose interest in Blu-Ray extends no further than HD movie playback. If you need to be able to write Blu-Ray discs, you're still going to have to pay quite a bit more than the BDC-S02BK's asking price. The drive's DVD writing and recording performance is fair, though not as quick as the numbers on the box would have you believe.

  • Conclusion: As we said at the start, the BDC-S02 is the retail drive for Pioneer's BDC-202. The new firmware release (1.01) seems to have helped the writing quality of the drive, since there were some improvement on a few of the scanning tests which had originally failed with the BDC-202 drive. Despite this fact, there are no other differences between the two drives.
