Summary: Biggest con is that you need software to watch blu-rays as the decoder is not yet built into any codec packs. It's really a carrot and stick scenario. Good price on the drive, but a lot of the playback software can be over priced so shop around.
Summary: Windows 7 immediately recognized this, you need to buy software to play the Blu-ray Discs or figure out another alternative such as anydvd, vlc and the media player codec package. I'd give it 5 stars, but I'm surprised at how loud it gets playing sometimes.
Summary: Pioneer has always been in the forefront of anything audio or video related. Anytime you see a decent price on Pioneer anything you can bet your bottom dollar it will be worth the price and there will be plenty of the basic features you need to achieve a nice viewing or listening pleasure. I installed this Bluray combo drive in about 30 seconds and Window 7 saw it with no muss or fuss and away we went.
Pioneer -- the best DVD and Blu-Ray Burners, bar none.
The Frugal Gearhead, Amazon
24 September 2013
Summary: Works exactly as intended. I've always used Pioneer DVD burners in my personal and professional system builds, and have continued to do so with the latest Blu-Ray burners from Pioneer. I have always been impressed by their quiet performance, durability, and $ value. Hardware and Windows OS compatibility have never been an issue. They last quite long, through a large quantity of read and writes.
