It is what it is.

Matthew B., Newegg
30 November 2015
  • Summary: I mainly use win 7 this drive takes about 5-10 mins more to install it but no errors yet in 1 yr. The other drive I have is a 24x dvd rw sata 2.
  • Pros: It does read blue rays, that is all I know about that part. I don't watch them, just wanted another updated drive. Quiet, doesn't lock up on me, and is reliable when I need it.
  • Cons: It does read much slower than my old 24x dvd rw. I think that ol drive doubles the speed, but I guess that is to be expected since Blue Ray has such a smaller and more precise laser than regular cd's dvd's. Maybe it just takes longer to read it but whatever first bd drive so far. Im not disappoin...

"Feels" like it should be in there for the long haul

b, Amazon
22 July 2015
  • Summary: Bought this bare drive to replace a broken OEM HP blu ray burner with lightscribe. Never really utilized the blu ray burning capabilities much anyway. Took all of 20 minutes to remove the old drive and pop this pioneer in it's place. Powered up, and proceeded to find out what would work.

Good drive, but it doesn't come with a working Blu-Ray player, and there are no free ones.

  • Summary: This is a good, reliable Blu-Ray drive, but the Nero software is worthless, I already had screws and cables, and I ultimately had to buy some Blu-Ray software and a DVI cable to play Blu-Rays with this. The Nero Software does include a program called Nero Blu-Ray Player, but it just doesn't work.

Dead on arrival

headrow, Amazon
3 June 2015
  • Summary: P.O.S. Dead on arrival. Since I've never changed out an optical drive, I thought I was doing something wrong. After many hours of trying to figure things out...i gave up. I decided to buy another drive, which ended up working great.

Don't forget the software.

scooter, Amazon
3 March 2015
  • Summary: This drive does exactly what it is advertised to do - read Bluray discs. I was disappointed that I had to also buy software due to Sony keeping disc locked, but it was my own fault for not having researched the technology more to know I would have to buy software (or deal with trials).
