Lite-On makes great stuff!

Stephen J., Newegg
3 March 2010
  • Summary: I have used Lite-On for years and it is a Quality Product.
  • Pros: Works as advertized. Now my laptop can burn direct to disk w/ two CD drives. Using Nero Burner software and LightScribe; I'm making my own labels and templates; no more hand written CD names. They look so professional! It's so easy to do! I love that it works without a seperate power supply! Grea...

CD/DVD burner

Pete K., Newegg
23 October 2009
  • Summary: Good product good price.
  • Pros: Decent external burner. Purchased it to go with my EEE pc. Small and light. The power indicator on the back is a handy little feature.
  • Cons: seems to be a little more sensitive to dirty/scratched disks.

LiteOn Slim External DVD

Anonymous, Newegg
7 August 2009
  • Summary: i purchased this drive for work when I realized the slot-load burner drive in the new Acer VL-460 would not accommodate mini or business card disks. I use the minis extensively for storing and/or distributing driver files and small amounts of data.
  • Pros: USB Powered; small; LightScribe capable; portable; includes stand for upright placement
  • Cons: Does not handle business card disks well at all.

I'd recommend it

Anonymous, Newegg
4 June 2009
  • Summary: Liteon support is awesome, prior to purchaseing this unit I sent them an email thinking I would wait days to answer my question to confirm this drive is mini sata and not mini itx(parallel like) and they responded confirming it was indeed mini SATA within 12hrs of my emal to them, so I definitely...
  • Pros: Very nice lightweight and sturdy Lighscribe DVD-RW. I got this for a few reasons. Firstly, I did not buy it for the unit inside the enclosure, I specifically looked for a slimline enclosure, with mini USB in the rear, and mini SATA so that it can be upgraded with the drive inside so that in the f...
  • Cons: Still a bit pricey for $75 when the bare drive costs $49.99 so does that mean the enclosure is really worth the $25 difference for 3 small pieces of plastic put together? Should you ever need to use the external power plug for older USB 1.1 or 1.0 laptop/PC's I warn you now the AC adapter is HUGE...

User Review

Jean C., Newegg
25 May 2009
  • Pros: I ordered this stricktly for the lightscribe and have not been disappointed. The lightscribe program has more templates than the roxio, but have printed through the roxio program. because it gives me more options that I want. I would definitely order this again.
  • Cons: Don't know of any now

Lite-On USB eSAU208-01 w/ LightScribe

Del Y., Newegg
14 May 2009
  • Summary: The Linux version of the LightScribe software is very limited, when compared to the Windows version. For this reason, I gave this product only 4 stars.
  • Pros: This is a very solid and lite drive, which is important to me because it travels with me everywhere. I purchased this writer to use with my DELL Mini 9. My Mini operates with Ubuntu 9.04, and it was plug-and-play.
  • Cons: The drive seems a little slow, but not enough to make it unacceptable. And as long as it holds up with my travel, I’ll accept the trade off. I purchased some rubber 3M feet from Lowe’s – not really a con, I just prefer to have them.

Nice Drive

Connie O., Newegg
1 April 2009
  • Summary: The color is more white than beige.Looks good with my Pink Acer and doesn't show fingerprints thats why I got it.I am going to try and burn a DVD and CD to see how it works and will try the lightscrib.I have put some programs on my Acer and worked fine.
  • Pros: Small size does what I wanted to do.
  • Cons: As others said couldn't get Nero to install on my Acer One or a Compaq Persiro V2000. I did find a free lightscribe program but haven't used it yet. It did install on a emachine desktop from wally world

Somewhat Slow, But Dependable

David R., Newegg
25 March 2009
  • Summary: I'd like to echo sentiments others have expressed about the lack of a slipcover for this drive. It's a pretty unit, and throwing in a cheap nylon cover for it to protect against scratches and dings would be worth a couple of extra bucks.
  • Pros: Delivery of this unit was prompt, and it arrived in excellent condition. This unit is very lightweight and has a very small footprint. It is an excellent companion to any laptop needing a DVD burner added on. Aside from the occasional index pulse, the unit is very quiet in operation. The unit wor...
  • Cons: "Out of the box", the maximum speed it could achieve with high-quality media was 6X, but it has done this consistently and without any adjustments to the drive's config parameters. Better speeds might be achieved with some fiddling, but I'll stick with what I have for now. The drive cannot perfor...

Great with Acer Aspire One

Roy L., Newegg
24 March 2009
  • Summary: Free shipping would be nice.
  • Pros: As with the other reviews this drive is Grade A. Works as expected from LiteOn products. Burns and plays everything I throw at it. If you plug in the included AC adapter it works every bit as well as any built in drive, but it works great with just the usb plugged in(X2).
  • Cons: The included software is junk. I never got it to load, finally resorted to freeware ,CDBurnerXP, which worked great. I would have thought Nero would have done a better job of providing LiteOn with software that really worked. Some folks have never used their product and it's not a very good first ...
