Failed within hours !

16 July 2014
  • Summary: Failed within hours of first use !! Unfortunatly I had not got around to actually setting it up in my PC for over 12 months, its been sat in the box it arrived in until last night so NO warranty .. Will read DVD etc but does not recognise any Blu-ray discs. Updated the firmware using Liteon` own utility (apparently the newer firmware improves Blu-ray reading) BUT still dead.. Lesson learnt...

Hardware good, software not so good

Amazon Customer, Amazon
6 May 2014
  • Summary: Runs quietly, seems a good product. But I bought this to play Blu-ray discs (not surprising as it's a Blu-ray drive) but the bundled software does not play my Blu-rays! Had to pay for an upgrade to the latest edition of the PowerDVD software. It is possible use to the VLC free player I understand; I had neither the patience nor understanding to do this as it needs a number of additional components. So I paid for the Power DVD upgrade.

Good reader, ideal for media server

  • Summary: I bought this to put into my HP MicroServer which I am using for an iTunes server as I wanted to import some existing Blu-Rays into my collection and play/stream others. It installed very easily and I didn't suffer from any of the firmware issues others are having. I am running Windows Home Server 2011. Remember to purchase a SATA power/data cable if your motherboard supports it and has a spare slot to take advantage of greater transfer speeds.
