Cons: Failed to read blue-rays & then dvd's exactly 1 year from purchase. Never buying Lite-On again. Lst one did the same thing years ago. I figured I would take a chance on them again & hoped that they had gotten better. NOPE!!
Summary: Don't buy it. I have had great luck with <other major> OEM drives. This model is a loser.
Pros: It was relatively cheap.
Cons: I spent several days trying to get this drive to do anything. I have the full version of Nero....it crashed that. It wouldn't burn CD or DVDs. The supplied software wouldn't install...it wouldnt accept the supplied serial number. I tried various freeware software and they all crashed. Tech suppor...
Summary: I even did a expert job of cleaning the lens, but nope. Sigh Last firmware update was 12/10, so that shows ya how much they really support thier new product line. One thing you can rely on liteon for, is knowing your renting a DVD Device for a few months, then shopping for a replacment,
Pros: It worked for a while, at times?
Cons: I HATE Liteon, I used to put them in my builds for customers for a couple of years, and they have a 75 percent FAILURE rate in the first Year. I can estimate prob at least installing 65-75 in that time frame/ I only use LG, Asus, or Samsung now. Hardly ANY issues, with those brands! THE ONLY reas...
Cons: Broke within 1 year. It can still play blu-ray, but cannot play CDs or DVDs. I had thought it was just a driver issue and that an update at some point might fix it so I procrastinated. Turns out it's something mechanical inside not working and now it is 6 months after the 1 year warranty. Lite-on...
Summary: Well, I will be fair about this. IF the drive works, it's awesome. Easily the fastest and quietest I've ever had. So, I would just say look at the number of 1-egg vs. 5-egg reviews and decide for yourself. I got mine on sale really cheap, so I don't feel bad about it.
Pros: FAST, quiet, cheap, runs just about every format there is.
Cons: Well, for me it broke after about 80-100 rips with EAC (no, I wasn't using "paranoid mode"). So...that's not OK.
Summary: **In a few forums I read about CyberLink Power DVD8, i found that if you hit the 'X' button to close out, bugs out the software and could hinder you watching some titles, really stupid - but heads up.
Pros: This isnt a bad blu-ray drive. Plays and burns DVDs and CDs no problem, fast and quietly. Plays blu-rays as fast as it says it does with not perfect, but still great quality (watching on 27" Asus vk278q).
Cons: THE SOFTWARE IS BAD! The CyberLink8 that it comes with is horrible. First blu-ray i threw at it was Avatar. Wouldnt play even after firmware updates. Downloaded the free trial of Cyberlink10 and played Avatar fine. 2012, Avatar and a few others will not play on CyberLink PowerDvD8, played everyth...
Pros: Reads and plays Blu Rays. Burns DVDs and CDs. Lightscribe. Good price.
Cons: Software is horrendous. With latest firmware, would not play a single BluRay from my collection. Kept giving "unsupported format" errors. Getting the newest version magically fixes this, for around 50$.
