Summary: This thing is pretty sweet. Yeah it's a little noisy and it's not exactly lightning fast. But lets be honest, it's operating a on USB 2.0.. For $15 as well.. This thing is great. Perfect for small builds with no room for a CD-Drive (that's what I ran into).
Summary: Thought maybe it was my lack of knowledge so I waited until I visited my son who is a computer tecvh for a large national CPA firm. He tried to get it to work without success and finally told me there was something wrong with it .
Summary: Overall, decent drive for the price. There was a newegg discount when I purchased this, which is part of the reason for getting this one.
Pros: Decent external dvd drive size, not heavy, works with most of my dvd disks. Great for desktop builds that do not have internal drives like mine, since I built a mini-itx gaming rig.
Cons: The cover that opens does not seem to have good quality, but this is an inexpensive drive. The USB cable holder on the bottom of the drive is angled 90 degrees, which is a bit rough to place the cable in, will be a tight fit as well.
Summary: I bought this from Newegg's e-B-a-y store. I would like to see purchases on that site become part of my Newegg account on the main site.
Pros: Inexpensive at 14.99 and does what it's supposed to do. A single USB connection is all that is needed. Most others I looked at needed two.
Cons: Like others, the 3 or 4" USB cable is kind of absurd. I think the mfg was thinking the only use would be with it lying on a table directly beside a laptop computer. I solved the issue with a USB extension I have. Not crazy about having to slide a button to the side to open it and a mechanical dra...
Summary: I bought this as a backup in case I needed one for a PC or laptop that doesn't have an optical drive. It works very well for that. The only reason I knocked an egg off was because this states it's 8x, but I have yet to see it go above 4x or 5x. I tested this ripping DVDs to my HTPC.
Pros: + Small + USB Powered + Has USB Cable, and stores it under the drive
Cons: - Slow - A bit on the cheap feeling side - NOT a DVD burner (I knew this before purchase, but these days, burners are expected)
Summary: It's not working with my iMac. Box states that it's only Windows compatible. do not buy if you're looking to use it with MAC. It doesn't work with MAC. Did I mention, NOT MAC COMPATIBLE DESPITE DESCRIPTION. I'd return it but not worth the effort.
Pros: compact ; cheap
Cons: It's not working with my iMac. Box states that it's only Windows compatible. do not buy if you're looking to use it with MAC. It doesn't work with MAC. Did I mention, NOT MAC COMPATIBLE DESPITE DESCRIPTION. I'd return it but not worth the effort.
Summary: The cord that came with it is only about 8" long, from tip to tip. It is really short. On a positive note, they have a place for you to store that cable on the underneath of the ROM. It is a CD/DVD player only. It does not burn disks.
Pros: small, light, cheap, storage place on the bottom for the USB cable so you dont loose it.
Cons: short cord, cheap, ROM only. It will read to both CD's and DVD's, but does not write or burn disks.
Pros: I love this simple read-only drive. It saves me a lot of hassle of creating image file each time I want to install software from CD. It is very compact with a USB connection to your computer. I paid $10 w/ discount code and it is worth every penny.
