Summary: I bought this WH16NS40 Internal SATA 16x Super Multi Blue Blu-Ray burner due to the features that were described. I was excited when it arrived. I brought it in immediately and installed it and the included software. I was off to the races! Burned the included M-disc and one other 50GB DL Blu-ray disc (although it took 3.5 hours). SCORE! (Right?) Wrong! The day after burning those 2 discs, the drive stopped being seen/recognized by Windows 8.1.
Summary: We bought this because it was high on the hardware compatibility list for m-disks, a 25GB capacity disk with a special compostion for long-term data storage. So far has completely lived up to expectations.
Summary: The Blu-ray disc look extremely sharp on my monitor. I have seen the difference in stores for years, but wasn't sure how it would look on my system. Looks great!
Pros: The Blu-ray player does work. It works just perfectly fine.
Cons: My lack of knowledge, I guess. I would have thought that Windows 7 Media Center or Windows Media Player 12 would have the capability to play Blu-ray disc. Not so. Apparently since Microsoft lost the battle of HD movie disc- they did not want to support playing the competition's format. I had to download some software to play the Blu-ray movies that I picked up at Redbox. It took me three tries to download a player that wasn't chalked full of bloatware! Took me another...
Pros: Burner installed (SATA cable) easily and Windows 7 Home Pro recognized drive. Some said the firmware should be flashed. I burnt a dvd and Bluray w/no problem. You will need software to watch blu rays on your pc if you don't have it yet, Windows media will play dvd's no problem. Blu ray actually burnt faster than dvd!? Either way, no problem so far but did buy the extended 2 year warranty just in case. Would recommend.
