Summary: Needed a BD burner to replace a USB 2.0 powered unit that apparently croaked due to power issues. Wanted something a lot more robust, so assembled this LG drive in a USB 3.0 5.25" enclosure. MUCH faster BD ripping than my old drive! Have not yet burnt a BD-RE but my Win7 system recognizes the blanks in this drive.
Pros: Good functionality, especially at this price point.
Cons: None so far, but I haven't put mine through a lot of stress.
Summary: I wish I could get the one rmaed through newegg but it has been over a month already. Thanks for reading.
Pros: Works as advertised. When it decides to show up. No issues with the other 3. They burn and read very fast. I love them and would buy more. I only give them 4 stars because of the issue with the 1. When it shows up i can burn on it like no tomorrow. No coasters at all even with the issues. Thanks for reading.
Cons: I bought 4 and I only have a problem with 1 that keeps dropping out. In the bios it turns to funky gibberish and locks up the computer. You can restart it a couple times then will show up like nothing happened. Even updated the firmware to see if it helps and still has issues. I even moved to different sata ports and i can replicate it every time. Thanks for reading.
Excerpt: This is the same unit made for retail except it's only the drive, no cables, software or mounting parts. Works very good and is plenty fast. No noise, quiet as a mouse once a BD has started to play.
Pros: Durable, Fast Connectivity, Quiet, Reliable, Versatile
Summary: Having learned in March 2014 that Milleniata's BD-R M-Discs were now available, I order this drive from Newegg and the 3-disc pack from Milleniata. Billed as "A Permanent Storage Solution designed to last centuries" I was eager to make backups of our documents, pictures, and files that otherwise are susceptible to hard drive failure, or ink corruption with conventional writeable optical discs.
Pros: Drive is physically compact, shallower than the LG BD-Writer it replaced
Cons: No software or cables with OEM version--but this is as-advertised thus as I expected & certainly not an issue for me
Summary: On a fresh uncluttered install of windows 7, this drive works great as a CD and DVD reader, and looks nice too. However, when it's time to write anything, is simply won't work. Insert a BD-R, DVD-R, or even just an old fashioned CD-R, and the drive will pretend nothing has happened. No solutions for this problem anywhere, just lots of reviews with people experiencing the same problem. In other words, this drive is a complete failure - so please avoid.
Summary: Optical disc technology has really come a long way. This drive is whisper quiet, very nice!
Pros: Plug-n-play with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. Very fast, and impressively quiet! My old drive was a DVDRW (model DVR-215D, manufacture date Nov 2007) and I was skeptical about whether or not this new Blu Ray drive would really give much of an improvement (aside from bluray disc capability). I'm genuinely impressed with how much faster and how much quieter this new drive is. The difference is not subtle!
Cons: Only available with black faceplate. I wish they offered this drive in beige but they don't.
