Works

Franklin R. Ostrowski "Oldguy", Amazon
  • Summary: Performs exactly as advertised. Optical drives are pretty much commodities these days and the only time they are noticed is if they do not perform to specifications. No problems with this drive which is my 4th or 5th LG drive for various builds with no historical issues.

software does not play newer blu rays.

OneRedVial "An open minded individual.", Amazon
7 June 2015
  • Summary: I bought this bundle thinking I could watch my blu rays on my pc without switching the hdmi to my ps4. The software cd provided is extremely outdated and only plays blu rays that were released a few years ago.

Works But...

Robert M., Newegg
19 May 2015
  • Pros: Unit works well. Unfortunately, when I ordered this for my "expensive system" I neglected to notice that while this is rated as a Blu-ray drive, and does write disks - it does not write Blu-ray disks. Oh, it writes ever thing else, but not Blu-Ray. Reads them, but doesn't write. I'm not sure why ...
  • Cons: Does not WRITE Blu-Ray disks, even though if writes everything else. Difficult to tell that part without going into specifications.

Works as intended

David M., Newegg
18 May 2015
  • Summary: Worthwhile purchase for an affordable and capable Blu-Ray drive. Used every day for 8+ hours since purchase with no issues to transcode disks to home streaming setup.
  • Pros: Fast, compatible and relatively low drive noise.
  • Cons: Drive tray feels slightly flimsy, but it does not detract from the operation of the drive.

DOES NOT BURN BLURAY

David B., Newegg
16 May 2015
  • Pros: There is nothing wrong with this device. It burns/reads DVDs, CDs, and reads BluRay. Works to specs. Nice brushed metal exterior with black finish.
  • Cons: I give this 5 eggs because I should have read the specs more closely. I thought I saw a BluRay burner on sale, so I bought it. This should have been more prominent, in my opinion. Again, no product defects, just disappointed.

own it's predicessor

HandyJim, LG Electronics Ratings and Reviews
14 May 2015
  • Summary: I Own the UH12NS29. I guess it was sitting on the shelf for a while. I'm using Windows 7 Pro. It worked OK after I did the firmware upgrade. The software that came with it didn't work that great, but when I got different software it worked fine! It burns fine, but playback on computer is grainy.

And the thing works beautifully now. I had a bunch of headaches

Aj, Amazon
10 May 2015
  • Summary: I had a rather odd problem. Whenever I'd insert a disk into this drive after installation, my system would freeze up. The only way to unfreeze it would be ejecting the drive, sometimes manually with the pinhole release.

hardware is fine, but software is a nightmare.

Tim Wolf, Amazon
8 May 2015
  • Summary: The blu ray player itself seems to work fine. But the Power DVD 10 software that came with it is a PoS. I have installed uninstalled, and re-installed the software several times and it still does not work properly.

Works, but loud

Lynne P., Newegg
29 April 2015
  • Pros: Works.
  • Cons: When there's a disc spinning in it, it sounds like a lawn mower.

User Review

Robert N., Newegg
24 April 2015
  • Pros: Finally got around to installing this. Got it working with Linux Mint, plays every Blu-ray I have tried so far. Not too loud as far as optical drives go. Very good price.
  • Cons: None yet.
