Pros: has worked fine with no problems since I bought on 1/23/09. have only used with my Acer Netbook (Windows XP) that I bought the same day since a netbook doesn't have a DVD drive. I haven't tried it on my two HP computers (1 desktop 1.5 yrs old and 1 laptop 3 months old) since they have DVD drive/b...
Cons: misplaced the power cord :-), so is only powered up when plugged into USB jack/computer.
Summary: All I wanted to do was to burn CDs to my girlfriend's netbook. I hooked it up and the net-book, which was running XP, recognized the drive fine and so did iTunes. But a few days later, it refused to recognize the drive, and niether would two other computers. Returned to BB.
Cons: Worked once then quit. Slow rips when it did work. (Powered by dual USB cables.)
Pros: I've burned maybe over 100 DVD's with no problem. Since that's the reason I bought it, I've been pleased. Pretty quiet and very little vibration. I use it with a Macbook and it's plug and play right out of the box. Never installed the software. Didn't want all that extra junk.
Cons: Really none so far. Well, actually I wanted to buy one for our son for Christmas but it's out of stock. Bummer
Summary: Doesn't come with any Mac software (Windows only), but it doesn't need any for the drive to be recognized. I'm using it with Roxio Toast, and so far no concerns...
Pros: Slim, lightweight and works as it should so far. Quiet and as vibration free as a burner of this type could be. Fits Perfect on top of my Mac Mini, and great to carry along with a MacBook. Cables are good quality.
Cons: Because it's lightweight it tends to move when closing the disc tray... But no big deal. It would have been nice if it came with an A/C adaptor (just to have all bases covered), but it seems to run fine off of just one USB port, and I haven't had to use the 2nd (supplied) USB power cable.
Pros: Just recieved the drie and first I have to say that newegg shipped it out very quickly. the drive itself work flawlessly. Bought this to replace a HP ultra slim drive in an enclosure and that drive consgtantly had issues (disk hitting the sides, wouldn't mount properly, etc.) unpacked the box, pl...
Summary: This drive is rated 1.6A, but USB port specification only guarantees 500mA. This could cause I/O errors while reading or burning CD/DVD. This problem can occur in all USB powered external ODDs.
Pros: Slim, glossy finish. It works.
Cons: There is no cable management. But then, no other external drives at this price range seem to have cable management. :( Come on. It is not that hard to come up with some sort of cable management like Dell did with their D/Bay.
Summary: Works great. I only had to connect one of the USB cables to power it. Its nice to know that there is a second power source if the computer can not power the drive. I have not tried writing DVD's yet so I can not comment on that
