Summary: Buy something else. I have never had a DVD/ CD drive just role over and play dead before. The fact that it stopped the PC from booting would lead me to believe something shoted-outr on the control board. I tried new SATA cable and 2 different SATA ports, it is definitely a dead drive.
Pros: When it worked it was adequate but not specifically good at being quick or quiet.
Cons: DIE in less than 2 years; was used less than 3 dozen time in a secondary PC. My PCs are protected by UPS to prevent surge of unstable voltage issues and I always follow proper anti-static discharge procedure. So, their is no reasonable reason after so ;little use that this LG 24X DVD drive decides one day to not only stop working but actually stops the PC from completing POST.
Summary: As it says on the product description, it is barebones, literally no manual/ manufacturer packaging etc. Arrived wrapped in air bubbled plastic. Also, I had to purchase an extra SATA ata cable to install it so make sure you have a spare.
Pros: Easily installed this to replace a dead dvd drive on an old Gateway GT5432. I haven't really used it much. But it still works after a year and a half. If all you need is a basic cd/dvd rom drive with burning capabilities this is it.
Pros: i have had this drive for some time now... a replacement for my beloved Pioneer 106.... i have had good results with it thus far... with Imgburn, this drive buffer was jumping all over the place...but with Nero, it has been rock solid... recommended
Summary: I remember paying $400 for a HP CD burner back in the late 90's and now $20 for a DVD burner. Times sure have changed. When using my finger to push the tray door closed the other burners I've owned responded with little pressure. Not the LG. It will, but it takes more pressure giving it a very well built and solid feel. Overall, the LG has a much more superior feel than any burner I've ever had.
Pros: No problems whatsoever. Has a very solid feel.
