Summary: LG has always served me well in the re-write drives. I really only needed this to install my OS on my home server and it was on sale for $19. It did it's job, no drivers needed, works as it should. But boy is it loud, like XBOX360 disk drive loud. It's a good thing I will rarely be using the drive for anything. I imagine it would be quieter for DVD video playback. All-in-all it does what it needs to and the LG quality is great especially at that low price.
Summary: Only had it long enough to ensure it worked so far. Had no issues working with my current desktop. It is fairly loud, or at least the one I got is. This optical drive makes some fairly loud "clunk" sounds on opening and closing. Should point out that I did not have this drive secured in the case during the tests. During use it was a little on the loud side, nothing I can't deal with. Overall, does what I bought it for. Can't really ask for more than that.
Pros: Worked as soon as soon it was plugged in.
Cons: Makes some fairly loud noises on opening, closing and on during use.
