Earlier this year, I reviewed LG's first Super Multi Blue drive, the GGW-H10N. While the drive's performance and support for both Blu-ray and HD DVD were impressive, its $1000 price tag put it out of reach for everyone but hardcore high-def enthusiasts. With the GGW-H20L, LG has not only chopped the price by more than half, they've boosted the performance and added support for technologies like LightScribe. The GGW-H20L is the first drive with the ability to write to... Read more

Many users have been waiting for a drive that “does it all.” Suddenly, several drives fit that description now that HD DVD burning will never become a commonplace feature. Prices have dropped considerably for HD on the PC, but they’re still high. Sweetening the pill is this $499 Super Multi Blue drive from Hitachi-LG Data Storage. It will burn and read Blu-ray discs, as well as play all those clearance HD DVD movies you’ve been snapping up for little or nothing.... Read more

  4. LG GGW-H20L Blu-ray Writer Review

Let us summarize the most important positive and negative points below: The LG GGW-H20L’s ability to read High-Definition movies both in HD-DVD and Blu-Ray formats make this drive a must have for any desktop PC or Home Theater PC (HTPC). The GGW-H20L is the first drive to support writing BD-R media at 6X. The GGW-H20L performs very well when writing to all our BD media in half the time of earlier Blu-ray burners and LG has managed to drop the price of the GGW-H20L to... Read more

As a main advocate of the format, Sony is often synonymous with Blu-ray and the recent triumph of the HD format over HD DVD has added much gloss to Sony's image, especially its Blu-ray equipped PlayStation 3 console. However, it may not seem that way if one browses our Optical Storage reviews. While we have reviewed a couple of Sony Blu-ray drives, the specifications on these drives don't exactly keep up with the other major Blu-ray manufacturer that's aggressively... Read more

I have an Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe with Nvidia nForce 570 SLI MCP chipset and the drive is recognized correctly by BIOS, Windows XP and Windows 7. The only problem I have is with XP. Nero will recognize and burn to every BD-R disc I put in, but Windows XP will not read from the disc afterwards. Windows 7 can see the contents fine, as can my PS3. Takes about 50 mins to burn 20Gb at 4x. Read more

The CyberLiks's "Hi-Def Suite" program, supplied with the hardware supposes to provide means to burn and view BD movies. However, the BD disks prepared with this program are not recognized by its own program neither can be viewed commercial BD movies. The burner proved to work flawlessly. Read more
