Summary: I have over 150 HD DVDs, a Toshiba player on my home entertainment set up. The Toshiba is a nice player, very heavy, comparied to my Pannosonic light as a feather blu ray. Toshiba adds sound to my bose yahmaha set up, up-converts really better then the panny. Anyway getting to the LG GGC-H20L, firmware (1.3) is still on LG website. Added ARCSoft Total Media Theater 5, for $49.99 web special for download, also ordered disk, for addition 8.99.
Summary: I purchased this product just a few months ago after having owned another one of these for a couple of years. I bought the first one back when they were still making HD-DVDs and I wanted to play them on my entertainment PC. I didn't get this as a replacement, the first one I bought is still running.
Summary: I love this optical drive. I purchased it specifically for the HD-DVD support as I have a small collection of HD-DVD's that I do still watch, otherwise I would not have bothered. I didn't bother with the provided software due to personally not liking PowerDVD...at all. I'm using ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre which supports both HD-DVD's and Blu-Ray's with no issues.
If you want to do nearly everything this will do it.

Summary: I have been a fan of HDDVD for some time, and I have an extensive collection of BluRays as well. When I ordered my new Windows 7 computer I wanted to add a second drive right away. This drive was a no brainer choice. It plays every format of disc, has lightscribe and burns CD's and DVD's. Essentially it is the most versatile drive I have found. It installed easily with SATA and on my 64bit Windows 7 Computer without the slightest hiccup. I highly recommend this drive.
Summary: I was not sure this was going to work for me. It installed very quickly even though I had to hunt for the power connection in my Area51 machine. Plugged in, played right away. Used the companion disk and installed the software. That was the only downside, it took a long time to download the updates. This drive does what it says it will, DVD's, BD etc. Good job LG!!!
Summary: BOUGHT THIS BAD BOY FOR MY ACER GAMING PC TO PLAY BOTH HD DVD'S & blu-ray. YET, IT IS EXTREMELY HARD TO TRACK DOWN HD DVD SOFTWARE SUPPORT. ONLY ONE PROGRAM AND ONE VERSION OF THE SOFTWARE WILL WORK (as far as i know) - CYBERLINK POWER-DVD ULTRA NEXT GEN 7.3 (which was was released in 2007 and is no longer for sale new.). i would only buy this again if i had the software and i new 100% that it would work... PLAYS BLU RAYS MAGNIFICIENTLY!
Summary: Even though the dvd play is capable of playing HD DVD's, the software that is shipped with the dvd drive does not support it. Powerdvd 9 does not support the playing of HD DVD's, only blu-ray. Only older versions of powerdvd will work for that format of movie.
Summary: The drive works great and performs well with both HD DVD and Blu Ray content. Please note that HD DVD content will not be recognized in Windows 7 even with the included software - Blu Rays are not a problem and on PCs running older operating systems there are no issues. I purchased Arcsoft's Media Center Software (almost as much as the drive), and it performs flawlessly even in the Windows 7 environment.
