Let us summarize the most important positive and negative points below: The LG GGC-H20L’s ability to read High-Definition movies both in HD-DVD and Blu-Ray formats make this drive a must have for any desktop PC or Home Theater PC (HTPC). Writing of DVD-R and DVD+R media with the LG GGC-H20L at 16x with very good writing quality gives this unit the ability to be a single drive solution for Blu-ray and HD DVD playback as well as a CD and DVD burner. Writing of CD-R/RW... Read more

So your DVD burner is getting a little long in the tooth and you’re ready for an upgrade, but you’re not all that keen on adopting next-gen tech. And who can blame you? Even the falling price of hardware doesn’t make up for the relatively slow burn times, costly media, and compatibility issues that plague Blu-ray burners (and the same would be true of HD DVD burners if you could even find them!). Trouble is, you’ve got a brand-new 27-inch LCD that’s just... Read more

It ain't over till the fat lady sings, or in the case of the ongoing war between the two HD disc formats (Blu-ray and HD DVD), the fat cats (aka studio heads) in Hollywood decides which format to choose over the other. At the moment, both camps seem evenly matched, though with Dreamworks and Paramount signing exclusive deals to defect to the HD DVD camp recently, HD DVD seemed to have seized the advantage. Unfortunately, as Read more

With their series of Super Multi Drives, LG has bridged the gap between Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD by giving users the ability to enjoy high-def movies in both formats. Unfortunately, the high price of these drives has put them out of reach for most consumers, especially those that are only looking to play movies. For these people, LG has introduced the GGC-H20L. While lacking the BD writing capabilities found on the GGW-H20L, the GGC-H20L delivers the same performance and... Read more

A very good drive, good value and many features and software. HD dvd/Blu Ray Player Software (PowerDVD) is included but you will have to pay to upgrade from 2ch audio to 5.1 surround etc. Be warned at this current time there are few Media Players with HD support and you be very lucky to find free software. Installed drive with only minor problems and a 102MB PowerDVD update needed to be downloaded. Played an HD DVD with out any probs, I have yet to try a Blu Ray but I'm... Read more

LG is the first to spit out new technology because they are the last to follow standards. Among the hundreds of manufacturers in Microsoft's Windows XP HCL, you won't find a single LG product. Those 2 facts put together equals YOU getting sucker-punched when buy their latest-and-greatest only to end up spending hours upon hours trying to get it to work. It ain't you, it ain't your system- it's your LG drive. Read more

Why settle for a single format when you can have both at the same price without compromising quality? Future-proof your system with this drive. As for playback - I can say it is problem free for blu ray (don't have HD-DVD media yet). Picture is amazing on 120" screen from 720p projector. Worth the money to upgrade from std DVD. Read more
