Summary: I've been thru 6 "ATAPI" DVD-ROM drives from the big boy manufacturers in the past few months looking for one that was fully standards compliant. This (supposedly OEM) drive I received has the LG logo on the bezel, which is annoying for my desktop system, but it is really quiet and supports all the...
Summary: Being that my DVD Drive went out on my Gateway 300S computer , it was hard to find an exact replacment for my computer. Then I looked here and voila , its the same exact make , model. This was cool because the front bezel of the computer had a special proprietary eject button.
Summary: It works, but it's HELLA LOUD. You won't want to watch a DVD with this drive unless you have 500 watt speakers or your machine is in a different room. I must have got a lemon because others have said it's quiet. go figure.
Summary: I have had this drive for a month. It is quiet and it does read all kinds of DVD's but it could be faster. I do own other drives, like a Sony, Plextor & a Lite-On. I think the Lite-On is a better drive.
Summary: i got this player a few days ago and it rocks. it's VERY quiet and it plays all dvd formats (even +R which it doesn't specify). also the free power dvd software is comparable to windvd. not many come with free software. i was surprised when my digi camcorder burns play fine (+R..
Summary: This drive is great as a primary work horse optical drive while saving my more expensive cd/dvd burner for more important tasks. The drawer and parts all seem high quality and comes with all of the parts and software cheaper drives don't. It works like a champ!
Summary: The LG/Goldstar 8161BB is a very quiet DVD drive that plays pressed/retail DVDs and CDs and actually most CD-R's fine. However, more recently I've expanded my media collection to include CD-RW's, DVD-R's, and DVD-RW's.
Summary: Great drive for the money. I don't know much about DVD drives, but the LG GDR-8161BB is doing a fine job for me. The drive came with a analog audio cable, 4 screws, and a manual. It has a 256kb. cache and will run in UDMA33 mode.
