Doesn't Work, no support

Jim G., Newegg
20 February 2013
  • Summary: I'll not be taking the plunge with LG from here on, given poor support and bad product.
  • Pros: None, it hasn't worked since a few days after install.
  • Cons: Doesn't work. LG support can't seem to follow through on repair requests.

Why are all Optical Drives Junk?

Jeffrey B., Newegg
17 December 2012
  • Summary: I have had several other optical drives fail the same way. I use them very little and when I need one they fail on me. I am sick of spending money on an optical drive every time I need one. It used to be that they lasted forever. Now I cant get one to last a year or 2 with very little use.
  • Pros: None. Worked for a little while. I watched BR 3 movies with it. Was hard getting them to play from the get go. Included software (Power DVD) did not work. I was forced to buy Total Media Theater 5 to get movies to play and I still had issues getting them to start.
  • Cons: I hardly used this thing and when I tried to use it back in September 2012 ( I had not tried using it in almost a year) it no longer worked. It does not read or write. Makes a bunch of clicking sounds when a disc is put in. I finally get a message saying the disc cannot be read. Wont read music C...

Garbage: Died after very minimal use

Michael L., Newegg
4 December 2012
  • Summary: I just have bad luck with optical drives. I've had four LITE-ONs die just after a year and now this. Best drive I've owned is a Pioneer DVD-RW that's 6 1/2 years old and still running.
  • Pros: Worked well when I first got it.
  • Cons: Manufacture Date: June 2010 Purchase Date: November 27, 2010 Died after very light usage. Will not read Blu-rays or DVDs anymore, but CDs okay. May very well have broken long before the two year mark, but I don't know because the drive was used so infrequently. Never even got to burn a Blu-ray. M...

Worked a few times

Jeffrey B., Newegg
28 August 2012
  • Summary: Cheap Blu Ray = expensive cost of ownership cause now I have to buy another one. I feel Violated, cheap and used. Shame on LG for making such a poor quality product. I know that its out of warranty but someone should make this right.
  • Pros: Good Price
  • Cons: Only used a few times in my HTPC build. I had trouble with the software that it came with (Power DVD 9) so I had to install and buy Total Media Theater 5 to get it to work. I recently tried to use it to install some software on my computer but it would not read the disc. I tried several other dis...

Short Life Span

Jishi E., Newegg
22 August 2012
  • Pros: Worked well when the drive functioned
  • Cons: Died after a 1.5 years of light usage. Put this into my HTPC that got very little use as a Blu-ray player and the drive just died. Very disappointed with lifespan.

Short Life!

Christopher C., Newegg

Started off Well

Joseph S., Newegg
15 May 2012
  • Summary: I have not tried to burn anything, so I am unsure if that part even works. I thought I wanted the ability to, but seems pointless unless you're willing to pay for the extra media.
  • Pros: Worked well in the beginning. Had no problems loading any Blu Rays and enjoyed playing movies on it.
  • Cons: Like the other more recent reviewers, my issue lies with the software. It worked great in the beginning, but with new encryption on Blu Rays, the "old" software does not support and locks up. There is a way to upgrade to the most current PowerDvd v 11, but I am hesitant to spend $60 to upgrade if...

1.5 year life, nice!

Jason T., Newegg
7 May 2012
  • Pros: It worked great the first year and a half.
  • Cons: Throwing out I/O errors when trying to write anything and playback is skipping. Moderate use backing up pictures and home videos, by no means overused. Nice to know $100 doesn't get you even 2 years. LG thumbs down!
