Great, but extra software neccesary

Leslie M., Newegg
30 December 2010
  • Summary: It's a good drive but extra software for 50-100$ just to play a Blue-ray? I will go with Samsung again next time, they have good customer service. Make sure you update the drive and video card driver.
  • Pros: Plays dvd and blue-ray fast and quiet. Looks good. Lg. I can't comment on quality after 2 weeks but I will update my review if anything breaks.
  • Cons: It won't play some of the newer Blue-rays(like Avatar) unless you update to Power DVD 10( it comes with Power Dvd 8) or similar software. Lg customer service sucks, the guy didn't know anything, told me to just get a different dvd and it will work. I got Avatar brand new, no scratches what so eve...

Awesome drive... Old software

Jon N., Newegg
1 June 2010
  • Summary: Good drive WITH software included, at a better price than any others on the site... excepting one I wouldnt've touched with a ten foot pole. AWESOME DEAL!!!
  • Pros: Great drive. Quiet, reliable, cool-running. Worked right out of the box into the chassis as a boot drive, thank heavens!
  • Cons: The only con is the age of the PowerDVD software included. Version 8. But it works for every BluRay disc I've tried so far (knock on wood)...

Great for Bluray playback, but not as a burner

John G., Newegg
26 April 2010
  • Summary: Pretty awesome bluray playback for $100~ and burns DVDs + CDs. However, I see that there's an LG Burner that's now at $150, so I'd probably snag that and get some blank blurays once the price starts coming down. Then again, I've had this one for 6 months and can't complain.
  • Pros: - I've used about 30-50 Bluray movies/TV shows with this drive and it's played all of them great. There was one disc (Dexter season 3) that it didn't like, but as soon as I got a replacement disc from Netflix it played it fine (so it must have been the disc). - Playback is smooth, hasn't stuttere...
  • Cons: - Drive is noisy when loading or burning a disc. During movie playback it is quiet and unnoticeable, but anytime the drive has to do some intense activity it is quite a bit louder than other drives I've used. - DVD burner is quite slow. I have a 22x Samsung Burner that I'm used to, so maybe I'm b...

Reads blu-ray fine

Lawrence G., Newegg
16 March 2010
  • Summary: The firmware is rev 1.00 and nothing newer yet available on LG's website. It looks to be the exact same model as the CH10LS20.
  • Pros: First off, this model drive reads blu-ray discs just fine. For some reason LG has it listed on their commercial web site (not the consumer one). A google of the model number will find it. This unit is the retail package as opposed to the OEM version meaning it comes in a box with power and SATA c...
  • Cons: Doesn't read commercial Blu-ray movies any faster or better than others. Check the tech specs on lgcommercial.com. Can't overspeed DVD media.
