Summary: Most players have firmware upgrades to prevent customers from having to waste more hard earned money just to have the player function with Blu-rays.
Pros: It works with CD's & regular DVD's.
Cons: The Blu-ray software that comes with it is already out dated & won't play some Blu-ray discs. Also won't play a lot of the new Blu-rays just released. This is a waste of money if you want to play all Blu-rays, or you can spend another $50 to $100 more for software that works.
Summary: I do not know if it is the drive or the software that is causing my issues, but I am a very experienced technician and this is frustrating to me.
Pros: None so far.
Cons: Windows 7 detected the BD drive and installed without issues. When I put a BD disc in the drive tells me the disc name, but can not play it. I have tried the included software and many other BD player softwares and they all say that the disc in my drive is an unplayable format. I have tried updat...
Summary: If you really need to save a buck and don't care about noise this is a solid drive, but if you do care about hearing your movie, look for something better
Cons: Noisy, Noisy, Noisy. this thing sounds like a turbine..anLG dvd-r drive I ordered at the same time had sound problems as well. But with this thing I can't even watch a blu-ray movie, kind of defeats the purpose all together
Summary: Installed in a brand new media center build running windows 7 PRO 64bit. I requested a refund and am losing money on restocking fee. Save yourself a lot of trouble and look elsewhere!
Pros: Came with SATA cable. Plays REGULAR DVDs.
Cons: DOES NOT PLAY BLU RAY DVDs. Tells me I need to select a region and it has 0 of 5 changes remaining on the first boot. Declares any blu ray media unreadable. LG support completely useless and unhelpful. Included software is unusable. Worst experience with an optical drive in 15 years of PC builds.
Summary: The last person I talked to in tech support was without a doubt, the most obnoxious, overbearing, condescending person I have ever dealth with. I really wanted to ask him if ANY OF THEIR NEW HTPC optical drives are realeased with the ability to play this new format.
Pros: I bought the full retail version of this from Newegg and it comes with Cyberlink Powerdvd8 to play blurays.
Cons: Having had a great deal of difficulty playing AVATAR in bluray, I did extensive research. Fox Entertainment in their infinite wisdom recorded the movie in a newer BluRay format that this unit, as well as many other optical drives and for that matter, less than year old Bluray stand alone players ...
Summary: The person I talked to at LG was quite possibly the rudest, most insensitive, most overbearing person I have ever encountered in a tech support or customer service situation.
Pros: Another followup to previous posts.
Cons: I just finally was able to contact LG Electronics Tech Support. The VERY FEW TIMES I was allowed to speak I tried to ask what solutions were available for this AVATAR problem. He told me in no uncertain terms that LG does not have, will not have, and has no intentions of having, ANY FIRMWARE UPDA...
Summary: There is one way and one way only to get to the manufacturer's website for this unit. Go though the details tab here at Newegg and navigate to Manufaturer's product page. Unfortunately, there is no where to go from there to do the firmware update that will make this unit play.
Pros: This is a follow-up to my previous post. It now turns out that this unit refuses to play AVATAR in BluRay. I have done extensive research on this and a ton of people are having problems playing Avatar on a lot of units. From what I gather though, LG is not making the effort to do a firmware upgra...
Cons: I purchased the "Extended Collectors Edition" and I can't even play discs 2 or 3 which is just information about the making of the film. HUGE disappointment. The one biggest complaint I have though is that when you go to LG website and look for this unit, you can not find it.
Summary: I also have a lite on blu ray player that used to work fine, but now it doesn't work either, once again it seams to be a problem with cyberlinks software, do your self a favor and google "blu ray player doesn't play blu rays" or "cyberlink power dvd won't play blu rays" and you'll see that people...
Pros: plays dvd's looks good
Cons: ONLY plays dvd's, will NOT play blurays with windows 7. I don't think it's the drives fault, it's the cyberlink software that's provided with the drive. At first if i tried to play a blu ray disk my computer would BSOD every time about 10 seconts into the movie starting, after i updated the the d...
