Summary: I have several external drives, one is even almost the identical specs including Blu-Ray burning. that drive is also highly recommended and also made by LG it is model # BE14NU40. Both are excellent drives but this portable is amazing for as small as it is. Love them both but the portable is amazing.
Pros: Performance, Style/Design, easy to use, Features/Settings, Quality
Summary: Bought this drive and initially loved it so much because it was everything I was looking for. Slim, Blu Ray reader and writer, and compatible with Windows and Mac. However, it quickly stopped working and has since become useless to me. Does not read Blu Ray disks, DVD's, or CD's. Completely disappointed that I now have to invest in another device to watch movies with my MacBook Air and Surface.
Summary: Need was to use BR disks rather than DVD's as I provide electronic chart updates to fleet units that can easily amount to 20GB. Slower burn speed not much of an issue in my case; it works fine and saves shipping costs.
Summary: I liked the product and I would recommend to my friends. I had troubles to install the software and watch movies in Bluray. Watch movies in DVD is easy is just put the DVD into the driver and watch. Watch in Bluray take a few seconds to loading and it's necessary watch in the PowerDVD (software).
Summary: LG BP40NS20 External Blueray How I expected to use it: To watch DVD's and Blueray's on my laptop while traveling. The software that comes with this product is some of the worst. When I did some research, after I couldn't get it to work, I found the people who wrote reviews didn't actually use the software that comes with it. It's bad. Watching a Blueray didn't work without downloading another entities software product. The the DVD playback was jumpy.
Summary: i wasnt 100% before i purchased this if it would do what i wanted, but it does. it reads blurays on my mac mini and macbook pro with no issue. there were no drivers to install, just kind of started working in makeMKV, and it allows me to make backups of my bluray discs just in case my kids mess them up
Summary: I bought this player to be a peripheral optical player/ burner for my brand new Lenovo Yoga 2 pro. The software out of the box includes PowerDvd 10 which is fine if your machine has the optical drivers to run Blu-ray. The Lenovo did not. I had checked with both Lenovo and LG support before procuring and they said it should work fine.

Summary: This device works with the 2012 MacBook Pro 13in with Retina display. It only needs one USB port for power (even for Bluray). I have tested the following functionality: Reading DVDs Reading CD-Rs Writing CD-Rs Playing Blu-ray movies (you will need a 3rd party software to play the movies) Playing DVDs (the mac software will play DVDs, no extra software required) I have not tested: Burning Blu-ray data discs.
