Way Overpriced

sucram, Amazon

  • Summary: Needed a Blu-Ray writer for a 2009 iMac to write HD home movies. The LaCie was plug and play, no problems with the drive being recognized after I hooked it up with a FireWire cable. It was bundled with Roxio Toast 10 which works for writing HD movies on DVD or Blu-Ray media, both of which played properly on my Toshiba BDX2000 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player .

Cannot play Blu-ray movies on Mac Platform (as of Aug 2010)

Bruce Michael Hecht, Amazon
4 August 2010
  • Summary: Bought the drive to watch my Blu-ray movies on my new 27" iMac. No Blu-ray movie player exists in the Macintosh operating system so you can only use the drive for this purpose if you install Windows and get a Windows OS compatible blu-ray player. I requested it be returned. The supplier consented, paid for the return shipping, and refunded the entire sum of my puchase. Wonderful experiance. Shopping is safe and worry free at AMAZON!

"Atrociously horrible."

Che93, CNET

  • Pros: The eject button works.
  • Cons: It doesn't even come with software to burn blu-ray discs! Lacie's support is non-existant. The drive fails during burns, making very expensive discs useless.

"Drive died in the 13th month...no help from Lacie."

autopilot!, CNET

  • Pros: Nice aluminum case with rackmount option, great via firewire (until it stopped working), minimal setup, liked the dual 6 pin firewire connectors for connecting additional devices.
  • Cons: Absolutely zero useful customer support. Does not burn at 1X as advertised with any media, made a lot of coasters, and they don't even make their own parts my guess.
