Summary: This burner was cheap and has worked very well for burning DVD-Rs (Staples Brand, Verbatim) and BD-Rs (Verbatim, Sony). I only archive data (DVD-Rs) or hi-def video files (BD-Rs) so far, and these discs are readable on the blu-ray drive on my other laptop.
Summary: This device will connect to Windows and will burn Verbatim 50G disc. However, so far, it will burn only 25 G worth of material onto a Verbatim 50G disc. I have contacted Brother and Verbatim. Verbatim asked for more info; Brother returned canned "we will be in touch" response.
Very nice, works great - software for Blu-ray playback and burning is usable
12 December 2014
Summary: This is a nice external drive. since most new laptops no longer include an internal drive, and many don't include a blu-ray drive, this is a really nice addition to most laptops. One of the biggest pluses is the included software which will let you play and burn Blu ray movies.
Mixed results for data disks, and poor results playing Blu-Rays
23 October 2014
Summary: Preliminary results are mixed. I succeeded in creating two out of the first three data disks I recorded and then the rest all failed with unknown write errors (some large hex numbers) part way into the process. Was using Philips BD-RDL 50GB 6X Double Layer 10 Pack.

7 August 2014
Summary: The recorder equipment from Buffalo and software from Cyberlink are functioning as advertised. Cyberlink, is very aggressive in its attempt to get one to purchase and updated version of their software.
Summary: I purchased this to use with a computer having OPENSUSE Linux, v13.1, not knowing whether it was supported. The Amazon tech support person could not find whether it was supported - it was not listed as one of the supported operating systems.
Convenient way to play Blu-Ray movies -- but for a projector make sure your computer has HDMI

Summary: I got this device primarily to play Bly-Ray movies on my laptop, which it does quite well. Opinions vary regarding the built-in USB data and supplemental USB power cables. For me, on my laptop, connecting with one cable works fine and I like having the cable built into the drive so there is nothing...
Summary: I bought this to play DVDs & BluRay discs on our drive-less new laptop. It seems to work pretty well. I have not attempted any of the other functions (burning discs, etc.) that the CyberLink software allows.
