Summary: Bought 1/10/14 3/26/14 I have had this drive for a couple of months now and it works perfectly. The drive is near silent and has a small profile. I bought this drive because my current drive wasn't working. After installing the included software my old drive started working. So now i have two drives that work perfectly. So why only 3 stars for a drive that works perfectly and silently. The usb wires are permanently attached to the drive.
Summary: If your reading some the other reviews about this burner you may have become a bit hesitant in picking up this burner. Let me clear a few things up. 1. Yes it works with Macs. Here's the thing, Macs do not come with any Blu-Ray player support. However there are several free Blu-Ray players you can find if you just google it. However, Macs can burn and read Blu-Ray natively, just not movie playback with out 3rd party software.
Excerpt: This drive is exactly what I've been looking for. It's definitely got all the aspects of portability. Self-contained power and data cables; heck even the power cable may not be necessary depending on the type of USB port you have. I've got it working on one USB-2.0 port without the other. It is true the data cable is a bit short, but still very serviceable. For the price…can't beat it.
Pros: Compact Design, Easy To Use, Highly Compatible, Lightweight, Professional Quality
Summary: I know literally nothing about computers. Very little Experience with external drives and I literally took this out of a box plugged it in and burned my HD home Videos onto a blu ray dvd!!! The burning time was quite long, a couple hours but love this little burner! Highly recommend.
Summary: Two units, the original and a replacement both failed. The first was the worst, but the second at least installed for a few seconds. Maybe they're just incompatible with my system (Toshiba Satellite A505 6004 laptop running Windows 7 64-bit) but they simply will not function, let alone read a disc, even the accompanying software/installation blu-ray. Disappointing, as I went through quite a selection process before deciding to buy this product.
Summary: it is the best blu ray writer for under 100 bucks ( I have also one asus and the buffalo seem to be better ) , I think the only problems so far to me is that the cables are too short so sometimes its a bit difficult to connect it .
Summary: This is my first BD burner. My internal DVD burner was dying a slow death, so I figured the most cost effective way to replace it, and prepare for the future as well was to buy an external BD burner. The other reviews nail it: Yes, the attached USB cables are stupid short, but a cheap extension USB cable was the fix. Plus, as others have noted, if you plug it into the right type of USB port, you only need one connection.
Summary: Plan on buying a power supply and a USB extender if you aren't using this on a PC or laptop sitting right next to your monitor or keyboard...
Pros: Slim and small, does the job fine.
Cons: Relies on USB power with only a 9 inch USB cord. I bought for use in the office by 3 people that occasionally need to read Blu-ray backup disks from the servers. Their computers are on the floor beside there desk, so with the sort USB cord, this is difficult to use. Has a plug-in for a not provided external power block, but doesn't say what to order or from where.
