OK drive, but only works with Buffalo interface card.

Robert C., Newegg
11 August 2012
  • Summary: I wanted to like this drive. It has a solid feel, looks good, fast when it works right. (Note: I only use it for reading/playing; I haven't tried burning with it.) The problem is running it on USB3 ports - it only works consistently with the Buffalo USB3 PCIe extension card.
  • Pros: Solid feel, looks good, fast when it works right.
  • Cons: Only works consistently with the Buffalo USB3 PCIe interface card, not other driver chips.

Put down the pipe and learn how BR works

Robert F., Newegg
24 January 2012
  • Summary: The poster who slammed the product because he doesn't understand that the BR playback problem on Macs is generated entirely in Cupertino is an embarrassment. So is the tool who can't figure out how to pirate his movies.
  • Pros: Works ok - playback is what I expected. Blu Ray's end to end security can lead to some odd effects - like not being able to open the tray is the usb port isn't working.
  • Cons: overpriced currently I have an actual work requirement to mess around with some BR media. No way I would buy this to copy commercial movies - that's a waste of my time. For archiving movies, I just rip to mkv and store on large hd's.

Anonymous, Newegg
26 December 2011
  • Summary: I recommend the Lacie brand drive as it has cross platform support (as any external drive should have at this point in human existence).
  • Pros: None, because I can't use the stupid thing.
  • Cons: DOES NOT WORK ON MAC OS! We live in the 21st century so you would think something as simple as an external drive would have cross platform support, but, this burner does not. It is absolutely ridiculous that one would have to run bootcamp just to be able to use this on a Mac. Being one of the onl...

Copy Defeats Are Built In!

T K., Newegg
2 July 2011
  • Summary: They should note these modifications so buyers won't get shafted!
  • Pros: Construction. Quality of build.
  • Cons: I would give a minus, if possible! I can't even copy my own blu-ray disks with this unit! It defeats programs and if it detects a ripper, puts a ghost "piracy" logo on a distorted screen that is the movie. Pure disservice! There is circuitry in the back of the drive that is anti-copy regardless o...
