Too much stuttering

Ahmet G., Newegg
23 January 2010
  • Summary: I really liked this drive, nice design, very good price, but had to give it 2eggs since it didnt do its primary job properly.. Couple of things to keep in mind: - The USB cable is very short and the drive requires you to plug 2xUSBs.
  • Pros: Really nice looking, vertically mountable multipurpose drive. If you also have a netbook, could use it with that in case you need a dvd drive. Comes with bluray software (though not a full version of cyberlink i guess you wont be able to use some features)
  • Cons: I recently built an i7 system and wanted to enjoy some blu ray movies. This asus had 5eggs so I decided to give it a try. It Unfortunately started stuttering with the first movie i tried, transformers 2. for the whole movie it froze for about 3-4 seconds for about 10 times. So I was quite unhappy...

Doesn't play blu-ray out of the box.

Anonymous, Newegg
22 January 2010
  • Summary: It works fine foe CDs and DVDs but fails to do what I primarily bought it for, to PLAY BLU-RAY MOVIES. Or at least it doesn't do it hassle free. I know my computer can handle hi definition play back: i7 920 @ 3.8GHz 12GB of RAM @1600MHz EVGA GTX 285
  • Pros: It's small, fast, looks good, and it can play blu-ray movies (see cons).
  • Cons: Oh boy, where to begin. Let's start with the nit picky things. It's rather loud when loading a disk. It's way too light, in other words I have to hold it every time I want to eject the tray or else it will slide backwards. The cable that comes with the drive it way too short (about 14" or 35.5cm)...

Simply Awesome

Alexander K., Newegg
22 January 2010
  • Summary: Frankly its a great device for a desktop system which has many USB ports, but if I were to add it to my laptop, I will be hurting. The speed is okay 2X speed, not really noticible in watching the flicks. and the cost cannot be beaten. Try finding an internal for this price!
  • Pros: Compact Comes with player software Professional looking Vertical mounting included
  • Cons: USB connected, and not just one, 2! 2 USB connections required. I guess this wouldn't be very practicle in the Laptop world since most laptops have 3 or 4 USB ports. You take up two of them your down to 50%. Or heaven forbid if you have 3, you may want to use a hub.

Compact, works, short cables

David L., Newegg
20 January 2010
  • Pros: Nice portable blu-ray so that I can move from one system to another. Software installed and upgraded easily.
  • Cons: The twin usb cable wire is way too short. So I bought a pair of 6' extension cables.

Good Drive

Jordan K., Newegg
20 January 2010
  • Summary: The usb cord could be longer but I had a few usb extensions around so it was not a problem.
  • Pros: This is a great external drive for watching blu ray movies. I bought this drive for ripping movies. I only ran into one problem.
  • Cons: When I tried to rip a movie any dvd gave me a problem. It told me it was either region locked or had no region set. I fixed this problem by going into the device manager. Right click on the drive and select properties. Then go to the dvd region tab and manually select the region. Then any dvd wil...

awesome blu

ERNIE E., Newegg
7 January 2010
  • Summary: A great portable blu-ray drive to use with your pc and laptop. Good price too.
  • Pros: Very easy to use, just plug it in, install the software (then update) and go. Nice quality drive, seems pretty solid. Every blu-ray I've thrown at it has played great so far. Portability is a major plus, fits in my laptop bag.
  • Cons: I can't really complain about anything, but just to be picky...Powerdvd requires updating and it doesn't have that many features. The power cord is also really short along with the usb. So you have to have it close to your computer and an outlet. You can always use an extension though so not real...

  • Summary: This thing is great and a flat-out steal at the price they are asking.
  • Pros: Plug it in and it does exactly what it's supposed to do. I'm using it for Blu Ray playback on my ion/itx HTPC and it works flawlessly and is pretty much dead silent during movie playback.
  • Cons: The usb cable is a bit short as others have mentioned.

Great drive

Leslie V., Newegg
29 December 2009
  • Summary: I own a PS3 and have started to build a Blu-ray movie collection so I wanted something to be able to watch these on my computers. Given I have both a laptop and desktop I decided to go for an external one.
  • Pros: Small form factor (the stand is great as it makes it take up that much less room). It's very portable and comes with everything you need to start playing Blu-ray movies right away.
  • Cons: The USB cable is a bit short (I'd guess it's maybe 20-24 inches in length).
