Summary: Bought this to use with a intel NUC as part of my HTPC. It does what a player/burner should but the specs listed PowerDVD 10 as being included (and it is not). Good thing I have AnyDVD and VLC or this would not be able to play Blurays. Also it is a bit loud.
Excerpt: I needed an external optical drive, so I thought this would be a good buy. It definitely is and it works perfectly. I have an iMac, so I thought I needed to go through a long setup process, but all I had to do was plug in the USB cable connecting the Asus to the iMac and open my DVD player. For some reason the directions that came with the Asus made it seem a lot more complicated than it actually was to set up.
Pros: Easy Set-Up, Excellent Image Quality, Good Connections
Summary: I bought this drive to watch commercial Blu-rays on my laptop. Performance is unreliable. Often about 20 - 50 mins into the film, playback will freeze, and maybe, if you're lucky, might resume for 1 sec, then freeze again. I'm not sure if this is due to minor imperfections of the discs or what, but this is my second unit that does this. Good luck.
Summary: Works well. It is ultra portable and convenient for my onsite tech activities. The only hitch was the lack of Bluray Disc Software. It should be included with the burner to permit non IT-Pros everything needed to burn Bluray discs.
