Asus SBC-06D1S-U Slim External Blu-Ray Combo Drive

OverClock Intelligence Agency
7 September 2010
  • Summary: I tested the SBC-06D1S-U on Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and Windows 7 Professional 64- and 32-bit flavors. On all platforms, the device was up and running within seconds of first plugging it in. At 8x for most DVD speeds and 6x for Blu-Ray read, the device isn't the fastest external drive on the market, but it works like a charm for playback and similar. Watching Blu-Ray discs was pleasant and easy.

ASUS SBC-06D1S-U External Slim Blu-ray Combo Drive Review

ThinkComputers

  • Summary: Final Thoughts I love it when a company update an existing product and make it better.  With the SBC-06D1S-U ASUS has improved the Blu-ray read speeds and added some cool features like the Blu-tuner and E-Green application. The SBC-06D1S-U is an all-in-one drive.  You are able to watch Blu-ray and DVD media, read Blu-ray and DVD media and write DVD and CD discs all at great speeds.
  • Pros: Slim design, Allinone drive, Not much competition, Powered by USB
  • Cons: None that I found

  • Conclusion: This unit is quite amazing, it is way more silent than my normal 5.25 Blu ray drive that I got 6 months ago. Of course the technology moves forward but an external drive usually makes alot more noise than an interal one.

External USB 2.0 Blu-ray drive with DVD burning capabilities

Good Gear Guide.au
29 July 2010
  • Summary: The Asus SBC-06D1S-U is a fuss-free external Blu-ray drive with 6x read speeds. While you can't burn Blu-ray media, it remains a good option for watching Blu-ray movies or burning DVDs.
  • Pros: Sleek and attractive design, x6 BD read speeds, no external power supply needed
  • Cons: Slow file transfer speeds (compared to e-SATA), cheap disc-eject mechanism
