Summary: Newegg's RMA process is hands down the best if you call in. Turns out unit was on back order. YaY I won't have to go through another toss up to see if I get one that works and just go with a nice Lite-on.
Pros: It was cheap. Played all the current speeds of disks and functioned just like a drive should. 3 whole days of bliss...
Cons: Caused a nice voltage error on the 3rd day and shut the computer off. Turns out from the smell it burnt its main rotation motor out. Thankfully we had a great PSU and it shut off just in time to save it's own skin.
Summary: VERY Easy to install, nothing besides the actual CD drive came. no cords, nothing, so keep that in mind. I didn't need any cords, just pluged it into my IDE drive and off it went...No problems installing, automatically detected....Only con is that it doesn't burn DVD's
Summary: There are other mfct. with similar cheap options and better specs. I think I will try one of them next.
Pros: Worked fine while it lasted. Quieter than my DVDR/W drive.
Cons: I left a game CD in the drive (no disk accessing, just sitting there idle) and came home to a repeating clicking sound. The second time this happened the thing was toast for good and just clicks away if you put a CD in it.
Pros: This drive is my workhorse DVD/CD-ROM drive. ASUS has been a good choice for inexpensive and reliable CD and DVD-ROM drives for years. You can spend a lot more, but not get any better service. Save your DVD-RW for critical recording functions, and jump on this guy for frequent DVD and CD read-onl...
Cons: It's boring! It just sits there and works. It doesn't make any interesting noises, and it never catches on fire. Boring!
