Simple deal

Anonymous, Newegg
13 March 2008
  • Summary: You just punch up Newegg, pick the cheap drive, check out. Before you can spit, you've got it. 4 screws, 3 connectors. Done. Insert disk and go.
  • Pros: Plug & play. Works perfectly. Inexpensive. Newegg's incredible delivery time.
  • Cons: Cons? Oh, yeah. It wasn't gold plated!

Died in 3 days...

Shawn G., Newegg
10 March 2008
  • Summary: Newegg's RMA process is hands down the best if you call in. Turns out unit was on back order. YaY I won't have to go through another toss up to see if I get one that works and just go with a nice Lite-on.
  • Pros: It was cheap. Played all the current speeds of disks and functioned just like a drive should. 3 whole days of bliss...
  • Cons: Caused a nice voltage error on the 3rd day and shut the computer off. Turns out from the smell it burnt its main rotation motor out. Thankfully we had a great PSU and it shut off just in time to save it's own skin.

Inexpesnsive and it works

George L., Newegg
28 February 2008
  • Summary: Used this to install WHS and a NIC driver. Will probably never use this drive again unless I need to reinstall, so for the price it was a good deal.
  • Pros: Cheap, read the one DVD and the one CD I put in it without a problem.
  • Cons: As others have reported, the light stays on solid green the entire time a disk is in the drive.

Click of Death

Anonymous, Newegg
25 February 2008
  • Summary: There are other mfct. with similar cheap options and better specs. I think I will try one of them next.
  • Pros: Worked fine while it lasted. Quieter than my DVDR/W drive.
  • Cons: I left a game CD in the drive (no disk accessing, just sitting there idle) and came home to a repeating clicking sound. The second time this happened the thing was toast for good and just clicks away if you put a CD in it.

Great value and performance!

Wiley M., Newegg
21 February 2008
  • Pros: This drive is my workhorse DVD/CD-ROM drive. ASUS has been a good choice for inexpensive and reliable CD and DVD-ROM drives for years. You can spend a lot more, but not get any better service. Save your DVD-RW for critical recording functions, and jump on this guy for frequent DVD and CD read-onl...
  • Cons: It's boring! It just sits there and works. It doesn't make any interesting noises, and it never catches on fire. Boring!
