Summary: A snap to install, works great. My only gripe was that the supplied ATA cable had a weird right-angle end that made it a bit of a pain to plug into my motherboard. Still, it has a good reputation and is excellent value for the price.
Excerpt: Wanted a standard DVD drive to install software from. This came in very simple OEM packaging. Easy to install and worked from the start. Includes ASUS DVD software but have not installed it yet.
Pros: Easy To Install, Fast, Highly Compatible, Quiet, Reliable
Summary: This is loudest drive I have ever owned. I am not sure if I got a defective unit. The drive does read well and a test of a DVD brunt well. Lucky I don't use the DVD drive often so it will only be a minor nuisance.
Excerpt: Though it is fast in most situations, and has good burn performance, this drive chokes hard on many commercially-manufactured dual-layer DVDs, primarily TV shows. Since I collect classic TV shows, this is a pretty major issue for me.
Summary: I bought this only to install my OS. And it did that just fine. It is kinda loud so if you plan on using it a lot you may want to consider a different one. I thought it was going to blow up with how loud it got at times.
Summary: I can't see that this is much of an improvement over the Pioneer drive I replaced, and in fact the ASUS is quite noisy. Not sure if I got a lemon or if that's just the way they're made. It's working, and that's about the most exciting thing I can say about it.
Summary: It's a DVD drive. Almost no software goes through this thing anymore. It's there for when a teacher has software they distribute through DVDs.If you got some PS2 games lying around, this can come in handy. Maybe you don't have a USB boot drive anymore so you have to make a DVD.
Summary: This is an excellent device for the money. I researched the reviews and this model had the highest rating. I have purchase this ASUS modle for other builds. It seems to be reliable. With quality media the burns are error free everytime.
Great for the occasional need for an optical drive

Summary: I don't have MUCH use for optical drives in this day of flash media, but of course there's the odd CD to be ripped & rented DVD to watch, so I finally broke down & bought this. It performs well at playing/copying/burning media, and I don't think I've had a coaster out of it yet.
