5 years of torture.

Irene B., Newegg
1 May 2013
  • Summary: To continue the torture insert Win8!
  • Pros: It functions. It still has updates for a little while longer than XP and it was capable of utilizing 64 bit operations better than XP.
  • Cons: Security Overkill. Didn't support older version software as well as newer OS.

won't let me get 7 till Dec 01 09

Tonia P., Newegg
22 October 2009
  • Summary: I have to admit that vista is not AS bad as I thought it would be. Having said that, I only got Vista when my old machine died a horrible viral death and I built a new one. I wish I could have waited to get 7 because for the upgrade option you have to wait for it to be shipped to you.
  • Pros: Works pretty well. Fairly stable. Not a resource hog that I expected. I like the sidebar.
  • Cons: Takes a while to get acquainted with it's layout. Sometimes has glitches that I can't explain. Not as stable as XP pro. They made some setting adjustments harder to find then other versions of windows.

Purchased for Windows 7 only

James P., Newegg
20 October 2009
  • Summary: However; I knew this ahead of time and so I dumped the money more for the Windows 7 upgrade. I have my fingers crossed that more of my games and flight sims will work with Windoes 7. If not I'm keeping my XP hd for back up.
  • Pros: Easy install. Have to admit it looks nice.
  • Cons: It gives me a hard time whenever I want to install a game.

mediocre OS

Adam M., Newegg
16 October 2009
  • Summary: I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL WINDOWS 7 RELEASES. I AM GOING TO BURN MY VISTA DISC!!!!
  • Pros: allows recognition of all 8 gigs of my system RAM power saving options are pretty nice to minimize any heat and power strain on CPU, directx 10... other than that not a whole lot
  • Cons: way too much junk computing, uses up way too much RAM and HDD space... spouse is visually impaired and accessiblity options are terrible you have to do a complete restart to change the font size...what a bunch of garbage!!! very aggrivating. also any time i attempt to update a driver I get multip...

Maybe some day I will love you, but not today

Manuel C., Newegg
27 August 2009
  • Summary: misc. thoughts "I should've bought XP 64" "Wait for 7 and hope for the "best" from MS" "be legit in your licensing, Bill needs a new pair of shoes" "MS, please continue making stuff like this. I need a raise."
  • Pros: Dos huevos, por favor? Cause its reeel pwerty!! Its BSOD on me only a couple times, but I was tweaking some RAM settings. So that was my fault
  • Cons: I've been doing support since WinNT. I find it hard to love this OS. When XP came around it was like wow this is the bomb-diggity compared to NT. Can we still say bomb-diggity? The drivers were easy to find and you didn't have to reboot seemingly every time you do any configuration changes. Sure ...

EPIC FAIL

Nicholas V., Newegg
26 August 2009
  • Summary: Internet explorer gets a rating of FAIL.. how come a big corporation like micro$oft cant make a Browser to compete with freeware Firefox? I am overall very disappointed with Microsoft, Vista could have been a lot better. Thats and understatement.
  • Pros: DIRECTX 10, first reason i bought it; as I'm a PC gamer. (Games look stunning, a million times better than ANY counsel out there, reliability is another story.) The interface is aesthetically pleasing. . I can use more than 4gb of memory at once. Security is 'somewhat' better than XP.. not on par...
  • Cons: Reliability. Why does a game that says "Games for windows on the front" crash at least once every 20min on windows? And still crash every halfhour after I spend 2days of my life troubleshooting dozens of possible problems!!!! That screams MULTIPLE problems all over it. That was fallout 3.. don't ...

User Review

Paula B., Newegg
20 August 2009
  • Summary: If I had it to do over I would have gone with XP Pro.
  • Pros: It is 64 bit.
  • Cons: Unstable, slow, unwanted new features, incompatible with many of my older (1-3 year old) gear.

Pretty much sucks :)

Anonymous, Newegg
18 July 2009
  • Summary: 4/5 on Microsoft's Tech Support. I'm forced to put my system to sleep and avoid shutting it down at all costs as it seldom will boot. It'll often just get stuck after boot, before the OS starts. Then I'll reboot, and it'll say Missing OS.
  • Pros: I Love the classic theme, and it has pretty good compatibility with 32-bit apps.
  • Cons: Completely idiot-proofed. Resource hogger. (Used 1.6Gb RAM after first boot with no apps installed) Corrupted itself in under 5 days for me. Stopped working Internet and wouldn't recognize ODDs. (I know it was the OS, I tried EVERYTHING) After a fresh install, it fixed it, and after 2 days the OD...

I am here to switch, again

Steven S., Newegg
11 July 2009
  • Summary: As much as I hate to say it I use this computer mostly for gaming, as I mostly use the work computer for graphics design. What good is the OS if most games don't work and I still have to use my ancient computer to play them.
  • Pros: It does not crash as much as some of the horror stories, but still crashes more than my old XP machine. It has some nice features. Adobe suite software runs pretty well.
  • Cons: Most of the games I own do not run on this OS. Of the couple that do, I can no longer get World of Warcraft to install or patch. All my drivers are up to date.

why not 64 bit

Gary H., Newegg
27 March 2009
  • Summary: I would like to buy it in 64 bit. I have to get it (home premium) in 32 bit then request a cd to upgrade to 64 bit. Go figure I guess that is a con too!
  • Pros: I haven't had it long enough to rate it properly. Installed perfectly.
  • Cons: It's MICROSOFT, what can I say? You buy it -they own it so 2 eggs will have to do.
