Fine system

DAVID R., Newegg
13 July 2008
  • Summary: As for the other reviewer, all vista systems are the same, the CD-key you enter during install just activates certain features which separates the OS classes. Your game crashing is your fault, not he OS's as they are all the same.
  • Pros: Works great, has the user management, advanced networking, and remote desktop settings that i need for business.
  • Cons: none

I Love Vista

n00bxqb, Newegg
10 July 2008
  • Summary: Vista has really turned around since it was released and it is now what I would consider Microsofts best operating system at the moment (and in the near future). I wouldn't consider anything else for a new computer.
  • Pros: From disc insertion to desktop took about 15 minutes (WAY faster than installing XP), found drivers for every component in my system (including 6 USB devices, one of which was my printer) right off the bat (I love not having to install the motherboard drivers off the CD), tons of useful built-in ...
  • Cons: UAC is annoying (though easily disabled), software/hardware compatibility not as good as XP (has improved drastically over the last 1.5 years and continues to improve w/ each passing month), still requires some tweaks to get rid of some annoyances (i.e. slow shutdowns).

Learn to upgrade!

earl c., Newegg
11 May 2008
  • Summary: If you disable the UAC most of your old software runs flawless. I am running 16 bit apps from 10 years ago with no issues. Most software companies don't have a clue about this. Most issues are with printers that have shoddy driver support.
  • Pros: Vista is what the new XP was 7 years ago. So my advice get over it, XP is going away and it is time to buy 2gb of ram and the matching stuff. When you give Vista the right mix it flies like a fighter jet. XP was the same way. The improvements are well worth the wait and it is easy to install for ...
  • Cons: None, the best OS to date from Microsoft with antivirus blocking in conjunction with AMD and Intel CPUs. The article is on the AMD website. Way overdue.

Still new OS

Evan C., Newegg
24 April 2008
  • Summary: Being the new paradigm, Vista needs to gain acceptance with users to be the new PC standard. However, there are enough problems to deserve updates and perhaps a redo (windows 7).
  • Pros: Looks good, works fine, stable. Fax and scan utility is most useful part of Vista Business.
  • Cons: Uses nearly 900 Mb RAM in idle process on my notebook, definitely the biggest problem. Somewhat difficult to use for non-techies.

Easy Install

Dr K., Newegg
8 April 2008
  • Summary: N/A
  • Pros: Took 35 minutes to install on my machine (clean install). Updates (48 of them) took 45 minutes to all told about a 1.5 hour process but no gliches!

Been Stable since first installed

Anonymous, Newegg
8 April 2008
  • Summary: It's a good OS if you were prepared for it. Has a lot of features but it is not XP. so you cannot compare it to XP. You can't install it on a machine that was running xp and expect it to function the same. DDR II memory is cheap so putting in 2 gigs of ram isn't that big of a deal.
  • Pros: Good OS worked great from day one! With some prep work you can have an excellent running computer. I think Vista Business is the only Stable version of Vista Microsoft has made.
  • Cons: NONE!

Great new OS

Michael G., Newegg
13 March 2008
  • Summary: If you have older hardware there's not much reason to upgrade, but please don't buy a new PC with XP because you have heard Vista is bad. The same arguments were made against XP because of the horrible incompatibilities and instabilities its first year out.
  • Pros: Overall performance is improved. Support for modern and future hardware is incomparably better than XP's aging architecture. Too many seemingly small improvements to even cover.
  • Cons: People tend to think Vista is inferior to XP due to common negative remarks to EVERY Microsoft OS since Windows 95. I hate people talking bad about it when I heard the same remarks about Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP their first year on the market. Granted, Windows ME was bad.

A real treat.

Matthew H., Newegg
12 March 2008
  • Summary: I have not had a single hardware compatibility issue with the 32 bit version. Even my three year old plextor dvd burner and x-fi xtreme music (also three years old) worked perfectly with it (creative alchemy works wonders).
  • Pros: It seems that Vista has finally matured to a point where it is actually usable. To my experience it is very stable, I haven't had a single crash or blue screen of death. The built in search feature is somewhat useful, the gadgets are fun although not really necessary (but I do like to know the we...
  • Cons: Price (of course) I bought the retail version, so it was a lot more than this oem or windows xp. Also, the security center is very annoying, you might want to tweak it a bit as in, turn off the user account control, it will be a much more enjoyable experience (which can be done in msconfig).

Truth About Vista

Anonymous, Newegg
4 March 2008
  • Summary: I've used vista business 64bit and 32bit with no issues. Being a newer os it still does have it querks. I've installed it on an old athlon 3200+ barton system with no problems at all.
  • Pros: Vista runs nice and smooth (especially with sp1).
  • Cons: Only con I can find is that people buy vista and put it on a 5yr old computer and cry cause it doesn't run correctly or is slow.
