ubuntu is far better

justin g., Newegg

  • Summary: Perhaps Microsoft should hire some Linux people to work on the next windows to improve usability.
  • Pros: Everything works as far as programs/games compared to Linux where it is a challenge more often than not.
  • Cons: More difficult to use than Ubuntu in just about every way.

Can't do update

Rodney L., Newegg
19 July 2014
  • Summary: If you want Windows 8.1, buy the 8.1 media. If you want Windows 8, call a doctor and get some help.
  • Pros: Windows 8 installed flawlessly on the new build and runs pretty stable. No crashing on my sons new gaming rig.
  • Cons: For some reason we cannot get onto the "Windows Store" to get the update to 8.1. I thought I would save a few bucks and buy the Windows 8 Pro and do the update rather than buy the full up Windows 8.1. What a mistake.

RossSed, CNET
13 March 2014
  • Pros: Can't find any
  • Cons: Confused and frustrating package with a learning curve which takes me back 10 years. Huge staff training costs lack of performance improvement messy layout, constant scrolling, switching, screen changes and setups that suggest primary school assembly.

"One of my favorite Windows versions ever!"

BlackBox_Hacker, CNET
26 February 2014
  • Pros: I like the new look and feel Microsoft have given it, you need more RAM about 4GB or 6GB of it!!! You can always install Windows 7 just for less RAM and the nice looking Desktop?
  • Cons: Needs loads more RAM!

"Huge complicated disappointment"

mazdaman7q, CNET
21 February 2014
  • Pros: Easy access to d/l apps (like a smart phone) Personalize lock screen (also a con that I even have a lock screen... again, a copy of the smart phone)
  • Cons: Several steps to do the same tasks with previous OS versions. No F1 help in most cases (forced to go to the new start menu with tons of windows to sort through).
