Bad Disc

William R., Newegg
14 May 2015
  • Pros: Activation code was valid:) Other than that, it's Windows...
  • Cons: The disc I received must have been corrupted when written. Tried 2 computers, fresh install on newly formatted drives without luck. Downloaded the ISO from Microsoft and create a bootable USB and installation went perfect.

Do NOT get OEM if regular windows user

Ashley T., Newegg
2 May 2015
  • Summary: Ive spent around 2000 dollars at newegg. this situation has me feeling okie doked. newegg gets these OEM versions for super cheap and selling them as if there is no difference(description is literally copy/pasted.)between retail and oem.
  • Pros: Its windows 7
  • Cons: Its sold exactly the same way as retail. i didnt know the difference just bought cheaper. if you lose the disc you will never legally get another installation media for this OEM version. microsoft doesnt support it. newegg is acting sort of as a system builder with these OEM versions but not prov...

Greed

David b., Newegg
6 March 2015
  • Summary: The 2 stars is not for the OS itself, but the policy Microsoft has had for a long time regarding the use of their product in a home environment. Sure, you can buy the full editions to put on over 10+ machines for [business purposes], but the hundred bucks you spent wont buy you the freedom to...
  • Pros: You need Windows...Unless Linux =)
  • Cons: Still overpriced for a 1 machine only OS, been that way for years and no sign of changing.

User Review

Ignas K., Newegg
16 December 2014
  • Pros: It allows your computer to play many games that wont work using the Linux operating system. Most games are made with some licensing agreement with Microsoft. This corruption has limited other operating systems from developing anything new.
  • Cons: It's a tax ($100) that comes with any new computer. If you buy an already built computer from a store, you'll also be forced to buy some version of Windows along with it. I built my latest desktop using Ubuntu and everything was fine until my son needed to replace his gaming laptop while in colle...

Charles B., Newegg
27 November 2014
  • Summary: phenom FM2+ dual core 2.8ghz 2gb ddr2 667mhz ram lg disk drive 2x seagate 160gb 7200.10 sata II 1x kingson hyperx 120gb ssd geforce 9800gt+ x2 corsair cx430 coolermaster n400 chassis
  • Pros: Every now and then I'll be able to make a good sandwich.
  • Cons: I don't even know where to begin or what's causing it, but for the past year, every change I make to the machine has an annoying pop up "do you want to allow example to make changes to the computer?", which is an easy "yes" since I'm the one installing it. Any hardware change requires extensive a...

Update On Unlocking RAM Limit

Billy H., Newegg
17 October 2014
  • Summary: As of three days ago Micro$oft released a series of critical updates one, which blocks the RAM unlocking patch treating it as a corrupt file and will NOT let Windows load (get a startup error indicating 1 corrupt file.
  • Pros: 1- Great OS IF you use 3.25 gig of RAM maximum and can tolerate Micro$$oft's deteriorating market monopoly 2- Not a smart phone OS 3- IF my only options were Windows 8.1 or Windows 7..take 7 anyday 4- Current versions of Linux X64 supported by AMD (great GPU drivers now) and Google (latest Linux ...
  • Cons: 1- Although we buy a copy of Windows... we do not actually own it...we are leasing it @ the mercy of Micro$oft's modifications (see other thoughts) 2- I got four copies of Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 32 bit for sale now...I am done with Windoze

Shipping sucks

a f., Newegg
17 May 2013
  • Summary: I'm not sure why I went ahead and bought this through newegg. The OS isn't bad, NewEgg has been smooth with the transaction outside of personal issue's with bank.. Don't bother buying this if you can go to a local geek store and get it..
  • Pros: good OS.
  • Cons: Shipping from anywhere for this is idiotic...

another MS gouge

Kevin J., Newegg
10 May 2012
  • Pros: looks nice
  • Cons: ONE machine only! When I bought XP - I skipped that dog Vista - it installed on up to 3 machines. I just discovered that for one hundred eighty nine bucks I get a license for one machine only. What a rip off! Newegg should be a LOT more specific about this. Definitely not the first time I have be...
