Excerpt: I am in a destroyed room. I am finally conscious after my crash. I check my phaser to see if it is still working, thankfully it is. I look around; this alien world is dreadfully scary but yet interestingly advanced. I see blood stains on the ground, I suppose they are my fellow marines. I try to look away, but the gruesome look of it all sickens me. I see a few med-kits and I pick them up and heal my injuries.
Excerpt: As usual with my game reviews, I'm going to start with a disclaimer. The other ops in this category, along with almost every other person I have discussed this game, have compared it with the PC version, and compared it unfavourably. Well, I've never played the PC version. And I've not played the first Quake game on the N64 either. As such, I feel I'm in a good position to give an unbiased, neutral viewpoint review of the game. And it's a good game too.
Pros: A fun, addictive, well - designed game, which can be obtained for a very low price . Excellent value for money .
Cons: Graphically a bit disappointing, but the gameplay makes up for it .
Excerpt: Quake 2 is possibly one of the easiest to get hold of N64 games at the moment, and can be bought for as little as £9.99. But is it a good game. The answer to that is no. With a game like quake, you would expect a game, shining with quality, highly playable and a game you would want to continuously come back to.
Excerpt: After Goldeneye I needed something to fulfil my need for big guns, and the ability to blow people away! Quake II was the answer to my calling. It's a superb game with powerful gameplay. The graphics are just like the PC game and the gameplay I think is better. Explore the levels for secret tunnels so you can get your hands on some of the beefiest guns in the world.
Pros: Takes away the boredom of normal shoot em ups and adds the extra bonus of being able to disintergrate people1 WICKED !
Excerpt: Quake II on the N64 is probably one of my favourite multiplayer games. Whenever any of my friends come around it is one of the games we play a lot. It is very playable and even though there are limited guns and few multiplayer levels you can play it for ages and not get bored. It is very responsive and easy to control as you can change the controls to whatever you like unlike Goldeneye and Perfect Dark where there are a number of set buttons.
Excerpt: Quake, Quake II and Quake III - legendary PC games! How does the console version of Quake II compare on the N64? Suprisingly well! The gameplay is just what you expect from playing the PC version, although if you are a mouse gamer, you will find the N64 control system a bit weird at first - perservere and you will frag with impunity later! An 8mb expansion pack is recommended so you get the full lighting effects and gameplay.
Pros: Superb deathmatch, whole new game for the N64
Cons: graphics are a * little * rudimentry compared with more recent releases
