Pokémon Stadium – Review

GameCritics.com
26 April 2002
 • Excerpt: When Pokémon became an international phenomenon of outrageous proportions, I wasn't surprised. I knew its success hinged on being able to tap into childhood past-times like my own. During my adolescence growing up in the culturally diverse town of Jackson Heights in New York City, my friends and I spent a summer in the outdoors hunting for crickets. This was extraordinarily strange when you consider that Jackson Heights is an urban district with little greenery.

 • Excerpt: Okay - I admit to having watched more than a few episodes of the Pokemon cartoon, but what strikes me about the series (and feel free to agree with me) is that most episodes are centered on making fun of the dumb Pokemon. And I'm all for that! Forget the fact that the show is just a commercial or how whiny that Ash kid is... Pokemon is all about making fun of the weak.
 • Pros: Character graphics and animations, Re-centered focus on strategy, Many challenges and options, Lousy audio, Too much of the same, Really just an add-on

Pokemon Stadium

 • Excerpt: The Pokemon phenomenon has certainly taken America by storm as intensely as it did Japan, and another reason why it's so successful has just hit our shores. Nintendo's new release of Pokemon Stadium for the N64 lets you have unbelievably impressive Pokemon battles in full color, perfectly proportioned 3-D renderings with all 151 Pokemon (including Mew), and it's as addictive as any sporting event game.

 • Excerpt: You've heard said of Pokemon that fans "gotta catch 'em all." Running with their runaway hit – which is also the only thing that's keeping Nintendo's sales number high an mighty and above 3rd-rate game developer status – the Pokemon craze culminates with Pokemon Stadium by offering a new way to corral the hard-earned, dutifully nurtured bubble-gum characters and display and play with them on one's television screen.

 • Excerpt:

Pokemon Stadium

There’s no getting away from them, folks. Everywhere you turn, there’s a Bulbasaur,or a Charizard, or an impossibly cute Pikachu, begging to be played/traded/hugged/fought/whatever. You may as well sit down and get acquainted, people, because Pokemon is here to stay.

Having been bigger than God, Buddha, and whoever the deity of Shintoism is put together is Japan, Pokemon finally hit the scene here last October, as if you didn’t know.

Pokemon Stadium

Nintendoweb
