Pokémon Snap

  • Excerpt: Netflix have recently added the original series of Pokémon and it's got me feeling all nostalgic so I thought I'd dig out my old Nintendo 64 and play some classic Pokémon games. Unfortunately my copy of Pokémon Stadium, probably my favourite console Pokémon game, doesn't work any more so I had to make do with Pokémon Snap. I'm ashamed to say I was 16 when I bought this game - in fact I bought an Nintendo 64 console just so I could play Pokémon Stadium and Pokémon Snap.
  • Pros: Decent graphics, easy to play
  • Cons: Doesn't last long, repetitive, poor value for money

Arcade game from the future

  • Excerpt: San Francisco Rush 2049 is the 3rd Rush release on the N64, it was also released on the Dreamcast and in arcade format. The game is based in the future (as you have probably guessed unless you are reading this review in 39 years time!) and the graphics are quite impressive, having developed San Francisco into a futuristic sort of world that retains some of its current climate.

  • Excerpt: Pokémon Snap is a game that was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1999 – at a time where the Pokémon phenomenon was at its peak around the world. The game put you in the role of a young photographer, Todd Snap (who also makes a few appearances in the actual animated series also) and you are appointed by Professor Oak to take great photographs of Pokémon in their natural surroundings to go along with his scientific research and documentation.
  • Pros: Innovative Photography Gameplay, Good fun to play
  • Cons: Not enough Pokémon included in game, Not enough levels, Not much longevity

  • Excerpt: Well as the majority of people know pokemon is the well known franchise comprised of an alternative world where a trainer of 10+ years old goes around the planet collecting pocket monsters in containment fields called pokeballs. The original games of the red and blue version where originally released in the UK in 1998 and since have taken the world by storm and continue to thrill the hard core fans who were around during the original release.
  • Pros: beautiful visually, great audio,a very original and fun idea
  • Cons: dated by todays standards, too short

  • Excerpt: In the 1980s, Midway had a huge arcade hit by the name of Rampage, a game which put you in the control of a giant monster, your goal to destroy the cities of the World. The game proved a huge coin-muncher, striking a chord with gamers, especially those with a weakness for Godzilla movies, and earning itself ports on all the major computers of the day, as well as Sega’s 8-Bit Master System games console.

  • Excerpt: I'm personally a fan of somewhat violent video games, with people screaming and destruction, you know... I actually received this game for free, from a friend who didn't need it anymore, so I'm not really sure about the directions in the box or the price. The woman in the short white skirt with the long legs and glasses...her face is sorta ugly, like her eyes are too small and her hair is a mousy brown, so that wasn't too exciting.

  • Excerpt: This game, while being inventive, is the other side of easy, there is ceratinly no other game like it and everbody has different opinions as to wheter this is a good or a bad thing, personally I think this is a bad thing. It was a brilliant idea, bravo on Nintendo's part to come up with something this inventive, but they could have mad it far harder and more interesting, getting a wider audience, the problem was that it was pitched for very young gamers, say <7 which was...

Snap Out Of It

  • Excerpt: The Pokemon craze is something of an epidemic which looked like it might have been dying down a little until the release of this and Pokemon Stadium around Christmas time, shortly followed by Pokemon Gold and Silver. The number of toys around related to this fad is scary - scary becuase of the consistently inflated price we have to pay for generally substandard rubbish...Pokemon Snap is no exception.
