Summary: "Mario Kart 64" is a racing video game. It was first released for the Nintendo 64 in 1997 by Nintendo. In the United States, the game received a guidance rating of "K-A" which deemed it appropriate for all ages. Serving as a sequel to the popular Super Nintendo release titled "Super Mario Kart", Mario Kart 64 returns to the track and pits popular licensed Nintendo characters against one another in a kart style race.
Summary: This is a game that many were expecting to be the best, so many argue that it is better than the original. I'll tell you it isn't. How can it be? The original was perfect. A game that could not really be improved upon. This one makes the mistake of taking away what make the original so good. Skill... That is it. Skill doesn't win you matches this time around, the AI of other drivers is a joke with them being able to catch you up whatever the lead you had.
Pros: Mario is back with friends, graphics, 4 player action
Cons: Cheating AI, Skill doesn't get you wins anymore
Excerpt: "*A review of Mario Kart 64 for the N64.* Anyone who regards Mario Kart 64 to be the superior game to Super Mario Kart is wrong. There, I said it. Mario Kart 64 allows for four players to play simultaneously, but I'd much rather take it in turns to play Super Mario Kart. I prefer the handling in Super Mario Kart. When turning in this game, the carts have a tendancy to slide. There are inconsistancies amongst the collisions in this game. Data ...
Pros: The obvious multiplayer fun
Cons: Average course designs, luck and not skill a considerable factor
Excerpt: "Mario kart is a great multiplayer and there are a great range of tracks and charactors to choose from and there are a range of cups and modes to choose from. There is also a battle option where you have to blow each other up. The game is made better by the fact that on the tracks there are secret short cuts and power ups which help people at the back of the race to get back into the top. mario kart can either be played as a multi player or a one player ...
Summary: Most Mario Games are branded too much but this on is different. Ahh, who can forget the days of the Super Nintendo, the 16-bit marvel with games like Super Metroid and of course the masterpiece Mario Kart. Who can forget the many lost hours playing this game literally backwards and forwards? All the magic that was in the first one is back in the supped up N64 version.
Excerpt: "...want to say one thing MARIO KART 64 IS NOT A BAD GAME it just is when you compare it to the SNES version . The graphics are good and it plays O.K. but the courses are too big meaning that in multiplayer you rarely see the other players and things like the triple red shell mean that a red shell , which was a potent weapon in the SNES mario kart has been devalued. It's the little things like that which detract from the enjoyment of playing it and as ...
Summary: Good racer not enough innovative track ideas but still more exciting than the dangerously crap F1 Grand Prix Good battles loads of fun. Nice weapons make a dull game less dull. The difference in characters add a bit to the gameplay characters are Yoshi, Peach, Mario, Luigi, Toad, Dk, Wario, Bowser. The battles are an extra good bit from the SNES classic and thier good with all the new weapons they have added.
Summary: This game is a true class act. It combines skilled driving with the light-hearted fun of any other racing game. And every n64 owner should have a copy of this. All the characters are in this one, and many have their own personalised tracks to whizz around in. The feature in this game that I really admire, is that there are loadz of short cuts that you can take, to try and go one above your opponents.
Pros: nice little game to get your teeth into and play with your mates on
Summary: Given the great success of MarioKart on the SNES, the N64 gave Nintendo a great opportunity to create a real classic of a game. However, in my view, the game, despite is crisp graphics and enjoyable sound was let down in a number of areas. Firstly, the battle mode was no where near as good as it should or could have been. Once the game had been completed on the SNES, the battle zone was what gave the game longevity. But on the N64, it just did not work.
