Summary: Does everything as claimed in the advertisement. Software install was totally painless. Opted for the StarTech USB 3.0 Ethernet Adapter to avoid replacing network adapter in laptop. It delivers connectivity with no measurable difference as compared to other stations on the network. Even if you are using 2.0 legacy USB, this is the way to go. The time will come when you will move along to 3.0 and you will bring this gem along for the trip.
Summary: I bought this adapter to use in one specific area of my work where we aren't allowed to have wifi for security reasons. It was used with a Surface Pro 2 for about 6 months, and seemed to perform flawlessly in that time. I question the durability because it doesn't seem to be as high quality as some other versions I have used in the past. However, for the money, this is a great deal and I have had no problems with performance so far!
Summary: With the exception that the Startech needs a driver to run, it is about perfect in its operation. have never had an issue with it and once it's installed it works fast and continuously. Very pleased with these. Have purchased 2 now, both for use on Macs - one in a home network, one in a corporate Windows network.
Summary: After reading reviews on other sites, I downloaded and installed the newest drivers before it arrived since the driver disk has old versions. Once it was here, I plugged it in and it was recognized immediately. It works great and frees up the Thunderbolt port on my Macbook Air!
If you have an ultrabook without ethernet, you need this!

Summary: Despite the fact that my laptop, a Fujitsu Lifebook U904 has a ethernet port built in, a feat for a ultrabook, I didn't want to risk breaking it. It's one of those slide out and pop open gizmos that seems like it would break, then cost a fortune to fix. I'd much rather carry around a dongle than risk breaking anything.
