Summary: Even after lengthy on-line chats with the NETGEAR tech folks, I was never able to get this device to stay on line for more than a few hours after each total re-setup. When it worked, it worked well. It's just that it kept going on its own to "LIMITED" service which did not allow connections to the Internet through it. Maybe it was just a defective unit. Either way I took it back.
Excerpt: I purchased the Netgear N300 Extender. I had some difficulty getting it set up. After having it set up it would only work sporadically. I tried an email chat and that didn't go well. I called the phone number and was told to call my internet provider. Then I called again and was hung up on; called again and the person didn't know how to help. The next day I couldn't get it to work at all. So I returned the unit, bought a different brand and it has worked perfectly.
Summary: I'm not too crazy about it. The units drops signal then reconnects over and over. Sometimes good, sometimes not so good. Mid Netflix freeze....wait...it comes back. Tried rebooting and all troubleshooting steps, no love. All my devices get pretty good signal in my back bedroom but I got a range extender just for the iPad Netflix. So far it's a bust.
Excerpt: Netgear N300 wifi range extender did not work for me. I followed all the directions. Still could not get it to work. Also, discovered that the link to the netgear setup site was no longer active. I did a Google search for the site. Not really helpful. However, i did discover there were some blogs about using the netgear wifi extender with a U-Verse modem. However, I must admit that the information on the blog was way beyond my minimal tech understanding.
Summary: I think that it might work with other companies but it will not work with the ISP CenturyLink. If you have CenturyLink I would recommend calling them and buying THEIR modem/router because it will be their equipment and they will be able to work with you. After two+ hours on the phone with them they tell me this router wont work with their equipment.
Excerpt: The extender did boost the signal but the quality was so poor my VPN connection to work would fail, the WEB based application I used would just spin and not process the request. The Lotus Notes would not refresh periodically and sametime kept dropping the connection. Poor performance.
