Panasonic BL-C20A

M Y., Newegg
20 May 2009
  • Summary: I have not been able to check out other features such as emailing , movement detection etc.
  • Pros: The main utility of this unit is wireless nature and reasonable price. If one is using this for just home use to identify an intrusion, it is ideal. It is not a forensic unit to identify and finger a crook positively. The other good point is ease of set up.
  • Cons: The instructions are not simple enough. I had to use their toll free number help which was comprehensive and down to earth. For example I had no idea what the word SSID meant. Thus when the default name came up in the space to put SSID information, I let the default name stay there and therefore ...

4 Dead Cameras and a FIX!

William G., Newegg
5 March 2009
  • Pros: Easy to setup. Easy to use. Great night shooting capabilities. A very good value for the price.
  • Cons: Like many other users, I have had a problem. After a little over a year, I've had 4 of these cameras die - all with the same symptom - basically, no power, no response, etc. After some troubleshooting, I discovered that all four cameras had dead ac adapters. So a quick trip to the local electroni...

Died after 1 year

Kenneth K., Newegg
20 November 2008
  • Summary: I was recommending this camera heavily for the past year and it was great. Right up to when it turned into an inert brick 2 weeks out of warranty. Caught one friend just about to buy one and stopped him.
  • Pros: Lots of features/options. The timer-based and motion-based triggers to store pictures in the camera's buffer was very neat. Tuning of parameters of motion detection was very handy (tuned out a tree moving in the wind).
  • Cons: Died 2 weeks out of warranty - seems to be very common. The out-of-box auto-config had to be reverse engineered for Mac/Linux users (go to http://<your-sub-net>.253 :6080 - that's port 6080 in browser - tcpdump is your friend). E-mail cannot use SSL/STARTTLS so your SMTP AUTH password will be in ...

very good camera at this price

Jeremy H., Newegg
14 September 2008
  • Summary: At this price, this is the best wireless camera available today. Just do yourself a favor and buy it! I wish Panasonic made an Outdoor version of this camera
  • Pros: Very good wireless range, free video recording software, built in web server works great, free Dynamic DNS service included, very good low light sensitivity at night. Cool feature you might not know about: camera can be viewed live on a iPod touch or iPhone in Safari!
  • Cons: WEP privacy only (recommendation: if you have a router running DD-WRT, you can set up two wireless networks, one with WEP security for this camera, and a second with WPA for everything else. No IR night mode, and no IR lights built in. I haven't been able to successfully set up E-mail sending in ...

Works like a charm

James M., Newegg
7 September 2008
  • Summary: You will have to play with all the settings.
  • Pros: Highly customizable, email, ftp, buffer, etc. Works like a charm once it's setup properly.
  • Cons: The interface was written in engrish, but you can decipher it easily. No night mode :(

The camera died on me after just one year!!

Abhishek M., Newegg
21 April 2008
  • Summary: I am very cross at Panasonic for producing a network camera with such low reliability.
  • Pros: Was good while it lasted :(
  • Cons: The Camera suddenly died today. Did not last for more than an year. I tried resetting it, plugged it onto wired LAN, did everything under the sun, but unfortunately it's another brick.

User Review

Dwight H., Newegg
17 April 2008
  • Pros: When working it was great. I had no trouble setting up and forwarding to an FTP server and email. Initially a good value.
  • Cons: I bought two about a month apart. The first one stopped working 1 month after the warranty expired. No power light and no access. I tried resetting, leaving un-powered for a week and another power supply. The second one worked about 3 months longer and stopped working about 3 months later than th...

Great Camera, works as advertised

Aaron M., Newegg
7 April 2008
  • Summary: After learning and figuring out everything about how the camera works and how to set it up, I'm going to order several more. Really nice units once you are used to them. I am running through RJ-45 to a Netgear Gigaswitch, up through an SMC router. No technical problems what-so-ever.
  • Pros: This camera works great, and is a high-quality hardware product. Excellent for lower light environments (and normal light), and good price per image quality standpoint. Comes with great mounting solution. Not hideous to look at. Easy to access from the internet, excellent and flexible triggers. R...
  • Cons: Could use a little faster processor. I wish it had much more onboard memory for buffered images, considering how dirt cheap memory is these days. The setup is a little tiresome due to babelfish-translated Chinese to English literature. The haphazard translated documentation caused me to second-gu...
