Audio doesn't work on Firefox

Tony P., Newegg
9 December 2009
  • Pros: Great camera - good price
  • Cons: Most importantly, please be aware that you will *not* get audio on Firefox, due to the use of Microsoft's active X controls. This made the camera less than ideal for monitoring from a Mac for me. Totally bummed.

First internet camera i bought

Filiberto V., Newegg
4 December 2009
  • Summary: its a glorified baby surveillance, but if you want to be serious about surveillance please consider another camera with better resolution and possibly night vision
  • Pros: Well it is the cheapest wireless camera out there. Software is really good and easy to use.
  • Cons: image quality is bad. does not work well with low lighting

camera works ok

Jerod V., Newegg
25 May 2009
  • Summary: This camera has ok software - it wasn't hard to setup, but it is not great. Would be nice if it worked at night... Lost one egg because of the sound out of the box and another one for the software. I knew it didn't work at night when I bought it, but it would be nice to have that feature.
  • Pros: I got this camera working with my WPA2 with no problems in about 20 minutes (I did a manual setup). The video quality is good, but I am getting no sound (I don't care so much about it). Wireless rabge is good! Email feature works great!
  • Cons: The sound doesn't work. The software isn't professional, but what do you expect for less than 100 bucks. This camera does not work at night! The triggers for capturing are waay to sensitive. I set the sensitivity all the way down and I got 260+ emails one day because of the light level changing.

Update

Paul W., Newegg
3 May 2009
  • Summary: If you need to contact Linksys, use their live chat. Just be prepared to spend a little time troubleshooting a problem.
  • Pros: I bought two cameras back in December. One camera has been working fine. I may buy more of these camers in the future.
  • Cons: The other camera had a burning smell. The video started to degrade. The camera stopped working. I contacted Linksys via live chat. Linksys had me send the camera to them. The second camera had good video, but scratchy sound. Linksys RMA the second camera. The third camera has scratchy sound. The ...

Functional But Not Great

Timothy M., Newegg
20 December 2008
  • Summary: I pretty much got what I expected but I am irritated by the fact that the cameras drop off the network. It kind of defeats the purpose of a surveillance camera if it won't stay on the network 24/7 and record video...
  • Pros: Fairly easy to set up if you have a moderate level of networking skills. Software for video monitoring is reasonably decent. Picture is about what you would expect from a "web cam" - not great but no so bad. Don't expect "photo quality".
  • Cons: I have two cameras that I set up on wireless running in to a WRT54G router. When you first bring the cameras up on wireless they work fine. After a certain amount of time (overnight) they are no longer available on the network. This problem is not unique to my situation...

Needs a lot of help.

Jeff W., Newegg
28 November 2008
  • Summary: I gave up on the software and the use of a free FTP service to receive camera motion capture files. There is a way to make it work if you feel up to it: Set up your own FTP server, I used FileZilla Server (free) Set up your own web server, I used APACHE (free) Sign up for a free DDNS service, I used...
  • Pros: For the price, it's a good wireless camera. Fairly easy to set up and has a decent basic feature set including a microphone and streaming feed for JPEG, ASF, 3GP, and MPEG. Fixed focus prevents it from going out of focus if camera is looking through glass.
  • Cons: Slow interface. Firmware does not come with a way to rotate the image displayed if you have the camera mounted sideways or upside down. TERRIBLE low-light ability, if it is dark where you are filming, too bad... Motion capture REQUIRES you to have email or FTP set up unless you use the absolutely...

Wireless-G Video Monitor by Linksys, WVC54GCA

Leroy Chausse, Amazon
31 October 2008
  • Summary: This item has been a nightmare! Before I purchased this camera, I contacted Linksys sales and asked the following questions: 1. Does it have the capability to record activity to the hard drive of a computer? 2. Is it wireless? 3. Does it need the internet to function? 4.

Very Clever

Anonymous, Newegg
24 October 2008
  • Pros: No problem with the wireless, Simple setup with included software, and picture is ok except at night.
  • Cons: Instructions leave a lot to the imagination as far as using the camera over the internet, more is included on the Linksys web site. You can not invert image if you hang it upside down. After turning it on, I noticed it has two dead pixels. The network cable it came with did not work and I had to ...
