great camera, great tech experience

Debra N., Newegg
16 May 2015
  • Pros: Just got this camera, worked on my android but couldn't see it using my PC. Internet search led me to believe it had something to do with Java. Emailed support but couldn't resolve per the email instructions. Called DLink support and spoke with tech id#AR004301 case#C6678387. He really knew his s...
  • Cons: Camera picture isn't crisp but clear enough for my needs

dlink 932l

Beau D., Newegg
25 April 2015
  • Summary: I wanted this camera for its email alert feature. I almost didn't buy it because of others complaints that the system didn't work. It took a little effort, but logging onto the camera itself through it's IP address, or the advanced settings tab on mydlink dot com allowed me to enter the smtp...
  • Pros: Reasonably easy to setup, affordable, good features for a cheap price. Wireless. Great for entry level security / monitoring. My wife watches our dog on it while she is at work through the mydlink portal. We will monitor our home now while were away. Turning on / off the email notifications is a ...
  • Cons: low resolution, needs to be plugged into an outlet as opposed run by a battery.

Decent Sub-100 buck IP cam with internal storage.

Gregory P., Newegg
17 February 2015
  • Summary: Inside the case the camera is powered by a Grain Media GM8126 SoC which has an embedded H.264 encoder as well as MPEG-4/JPEG and also manages the Ethernet connection. It has 128MB SDRAM and 16 MB flash and a single Ralink RT5370 b/g/n radio. The camera is priced about right.
  • Pros: Review is for the A4 hardware version with latest 1.24 Firmware released 2/11/15. When you spend under 100 bucks for an IP cam you usually get VGA resolution. A good lens, in-camera storage recording, 30 fps because of H.264, dedicated passive IR motion detection, video motion detection, sound de...
  • Cons: The trend is toward HD resolution (but those cams are significantly higher priced and HD doesn’t work well over a cellular connection). Ball and socket pivot tends to drift if you connect both the Ethernet and the power cable. “Cloud” designation can be misleading if you expect this camera to sto...

Simple security camera

gregory b., Newegg
17 February 2015
  • Summary: This is the second DLink camera I own, the first being a DCS-5009L. The 942L is similar in some instances, setup can be a little cumbersome if initially setup on a PC that does not have Java enabled.
  • Pros: No dropped signal Night Vision Apps for Android and iOS 2 way audio Motion detection and email alerts Remote viewing Local recording via SD card My Dlink is straightforward and simple to navigate around.
  • Cons: Single band N, no 5ghz. Complex setup if java not installed Low resolution of camera 480p Need access to advance settings in some cases (time and date set) Some settings do not keep, like microphone mute Recording to SD card makes no sense for security camera as it can be easily removed Was not a...

Decent Camera, but not worth the MSRP.

MICHAEL T., Newegg
16 February 2015
  • Summary: This camera is decent with the features it comes with, BUT I personally would not pay the retail price this camera commands. On paper, it looks like a great camera, but once you actually set it up and start using it, you see all the shortcomings. The microphone's quality isn't good at all.
  • Pros: - Limited night vision capability. - Connection to network via wifi or ethernet. - Can store video over network to a network drive or to a microSD card.
  • Cons: - Resolution is fairly low. - The low resolution + low night vision range make for pretty bad night / low-light image. - It's not PoE capable - If you set it to store video on the microSD card and whoever you're filming sees the camera, they can simply take the card out of the camera. - Having se...

Great concept but useless in reality.

Anonymous, Newegg
4 February 2015
  • Summary: If only D-Link used a decent internal aerial or better still an external one this could have been such a great unit but instead it may be of use in a small apartment but certainly isn't usable in a house.
  • Pros: Easy setup but both the included disk software was out of date as was firmware. Web based & phone access a great plus. Fairly easy for non technical user. Fantastic if it worked.
  • Cons: This product started out looking like a fantastic & useful security device, whilst it was next to the Wi-Fi router it was flawless. It wasn't till I moved it a relatively short distance from the router that the problem was evident - the Wi-Fi antenna is totally inadequate & at 7 meters the signal...

Good cam. Integration needs work

Redneck, Staples
18 December 2014
  • Excerpt: This seems like a good cam from a trusted name. I like the D-Link hardware and cloud features. However, I purchased it for my Staples Connect system and the integration and the information could be better. When I first added it to the system, all I could do is view the camera.
