Summary: The install of the newest firmware went without any hitch, although at the time it rebooted it was dark enough to kick into night mode and I was puzzled as to why the picture came back Black & White??? Once I figured out it was in night mode I calmed down (need to keep that in mind). Creating an account with D-Linkddns allows you to connect to the cam remotely over the internet, it works well and would be an easy way to keep tabs on things at home while you are away.
Pros: Very easy setup although nothing is said under system requirements about Linux the cam is perfectly usable through the web interface and VLC can connect through the rtsp:// address of the stream you want. This cam can be set up with a wide spectrum of video and sound quality, the presets seem sufficient for any needs most users would have, but can be extensively tweaked as needed.
Cons: The software that allows you to connect to the video stream live in the browser is for Windows and Mac only. If you are using the wireless connection, signal strength IS EVERYTHING in order to stream the video, I would recommend a hard-wire connection if and when possible.
Summary: My initial feelings were not overly impressed with this product, because of the camera picture quality. But as I played around with the camera and deeply thought about the feature set of this product. I am left feeling impressed with this camera, because of all the functionality it has at a good price point. If you need a better resolution camera for higher definition then this is not the solution you are looking for.
Summary: Overall, this isn’t the best camera for keeping your house secure...I would say the best option this can be used for is a nanny cam. I am disappointed with the online interface of managing the camera and its advanced features. Looking at the original price of $200, I would say that is way too high for the features and functionality of this camera, but since it is on sale for $70 I would say that is a fair price.
Pros: Well, before I got this camera to review, I actually owned the previous generation (932-L). This product has great small packaging with not a lot of waste (so very eco-friendly). In the box you get the camera, a power cord, an ethernet cord and the instructions as well as some product info pamphlets. Setup was easy. Two options to get going: connect it to the router through the provided ethernet cord or use the WPS button on the back of the product. Then once the ligh...
Cons: The biggest let down on this device is doing the advanced features of the device. After initial setup, there is nothing to tell you how to setup the advanced features. The way I knew how to get to them was from using its older brother. First you must determine the IP address of the device from your network. Once you get that, you open an internet browser and type in the IP address to login to the internet interface. Once you get in with the username of admin and the p...
Works fine out of the box but manual setup unlocks true power
3 weeks ago
Summary: I did not encounter the setup issues other users seem to have had. Try updating the firmware- some of the releases add new features and are not just bugfix and performance updates. My camera required a firmware update out of the box and I did not notice issues with it, so make sure it’s updated before setting everything up. Hopefully later cameras will have later firmware preloaded.
Pros: Very easy basic setup, just plug everything in (including Ethernet cable for initial install), download the setup wizard from the website given to register an account, then you are all set to start using the web interface. Just login and you can live view a stream from your camera over the internet. There are also iOS and Android apps that do the same. Picture quality is VGA and audio is not perfect but does work alright. If you just want to use this camera for viewin...
Cons: Night vision does work quite well but the infrared LEDs are somewhat visibly on. This makes the camera not so great for night security as in the dark it stands out and it’s obvious it’s there unless you try to hide it. That’s the most major complaint I have really. Smaller things include: VGA picture quality, sound is not the greatest, and the install does require downloading some software and setting up manually for the advanced features. However at the price point, ...
The camera quality is what you would expect for the ...

Summary: The camera quality is what you would expect for the price. If you are planning to use Android or Windows, their software is ok (take note, OK, not good). If you will use this using MAC/APPLE, their software (D-Link) is NOT user-friendly. If you will use this on IPhone, Ipod or Ipad, think before you buy and look at the Apple App Store reviews for the app.
Summary: Good picture, but same issues as all the other models, proprietary software and you have to username and password every camera whcih is a pain in the neck. It's a shame they didnt' make a good software package because they would have the best line available for home consumers. They are as close to plug and play as you can get, but the software ruins all that joy.
Great camera, does every thing that it says, a bear to set up.

Summary: Purchased the camera with great expectations, tried to set up with my limited knowledge of static ip, dynamic ip, upnp enabling, and dynamic dns workaround. It finally worked through a third party remotely working on my computer and calling the support staff twice, which I learned a lot from and where very helpful. Like I said great little camera with all the setting I wanted.
Summary: Save yourself the brain damage and avoid like the plague. The problem is that there is no reliable way to monitor the video feeds. Bought two cameras to watch our child while away from home. I am a very tech savvy person that still had moderate difficulties installing. Here are the ongoing issues: 1.
