Summary: The D-Link DCS-5300G turned out to be a very versatile motorized internet camera. The D-Link software has improved greatly since the camera was first introduced. I have used this camera for years to remotely monitor my home, and it has performed admirably.
Summary: Make sure to update the firmware to v1.06 since there is an issue with Microsoft Silverlight and IE. I had to the firmware from the D-Link Australian site.
Pros: When it works, it works well. The software that was available when it was new is/was awful. The latest software, D-ViewCam 2.03, runs great and was VERY easy to setup. Works so well now that I'm thinking about getting a few more D-Link cameras.
Cons: D-Link's support is horrible on their website. Firmware is not the latest on their site. Does not work with any other browser than IE.
Summary: Hardware: 5 stars for the price The 5300W works great. Installed a week ago and have had no problems. Was easy to configure (even on with some custom network settings I have) and connect to network without problems.
Summary: As other reviews mentioned, the multi-cam surveillance software can be tricky. A simple link to to the web interface works well though. No problems with the hardware, no need to power-cycle. We wrote a Windows Mobile device application (pocketPC or smartPhone) to view and control up to 4 of these.
Summary: Wait for a newer version with 802.11n, faster frame rate and for pete sakes, wait for D-link to improve the darn microphone.
Pros: I like the range of motion on this camera. Quality of the video is somewhat good.
Cons: Expensive, microphone is horrible (I should have listened to the othe reviewers) and I thought that the software wasn't the easiest to configure. Did I mention it was expensive. Optical zoom would be nice since the digital zoom is useless.
Summary: I've had my camera for about 2 years and I’ve enjoyed it. It's much cheaper than the 10x optical zoom version but you get what you pay for. If you need the camera to focus on one point all the time I don’t recommend this camera, but if you need to pan and tilt I highly recommend it.
Pros: Good Camera quality with the pan/tilt features. Reliable camera. I use it to watch my house through FIREFOX web browser. Just add the IE Tab plug in to Firefox and go. Add a powerline adapter and you can put it almost anywhere.
Cons: No Optical Zoom, you have to manually focus the lens on your target. Pretty good quality at close up range, not too bad at a distance, very poor digital zoom. Vibration of camera causes preset positions to shift slightly over time, but no big deal. Really not good when more than 2 people are on i...
Summary: if you just want some thing to know whats going on in an area - with not alot of detail - and you want the security frills (pan and Tilt, Etc) Its perfect - if you want some thing more than that - well think of some thing else - probably some thing costing $$$$ more
Pros: Easy to put up and install and it has a lot of neat tricks
Cons: Well - the price really does show how cheap it can be - i am having trouble with one camera paning and tilting it got caught on some thing during testing - now - it sticks when every panned too far - also these camera are for very close up - i would not think about using them from a ceiling - if ...
Summary: 2) The cameras are not really low light and do not work well with IR emitters. I tired one brand of emitter and it was useless, I returned the emitter. 3) They don't work relly well in high contrast, faces against a bright window.
Summary: The camera is excellent. I have retail stores 50 miles from me and I can watch my employees while I control the movement of the camera from my PC at home. There is no DVR necessary as the software is in the camera. It will move almost 360 degrees. However, be careful about which vendor you use.
Summary: Overall I'm pretty pleased with this camera. Quality of video could be a little better (considering the cost). The only "Gottcha" with this camera, is you can not use more than 15 characters for the FTP user name! This was confimed by DLINK.
